Role Overview

CORMAC is seeking an aspiring full stack Junior Software Developer within a HubZone to work part-time with other members our development team to support the organization in all aspects of the development, testing, and implementation of our health data management and analytics solutions. This individual will be a full member of the team, entrusted and responsible for assigned tasks that utilize your ability to write clean and well-crafted code.

This role involves working with and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full-stack of development tools and technologies. We are open to all tech stacks and programming languages as long as you bring a passion for staying current with technology trends through experimenting with and learning new technologies. This position requires a high level of adaptability, a proactive attitude, and a willingness to grow your knowledge within the software &/or data engineering world.

As a PT Junior Developer at CORMAC, you will gain real-world, hands-on work experience to help further enhance your academic background and career goals. Our ideal candidate is a Software Engineering student or a recent college grad who is curious, detail oriented and driven to learn.

Starting hourly wage: $17/hour

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

This is a remote-based role with part-time hours (appx. 10 hours per week) and allows for a relatively flexible schedule but at least half of the work will be completed during standard business hours so collaboration with senior team members can occur. Duties will include:

  • Writing and debugging code (open to any modern programming language)
  • Troubleshooting software issues
  • Analyzing user and software requirements to inform system design
  • Working closely with developers to improve our product’s functionality
  • Developing innovative solutions
  • Attending developer and/or scrum meetings
  • Working on minor bug issues
  • Writing reports regarding the progress of software under development
  • Monitoring the performance of internal systems
  • Participating in code reviews and/or quality assurance testing activities
  • Participating in estimation discussions with the product team
  • Continually improving coding skills

Required Skills & Experience

  • Actively pursuing Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Data Science, Economics, or related quantitative field
  • Permanent residence within a HubZone
  • Proven knowledge of basic coding languages such as C++ and JavaScript
  • Detail and goal-oriented
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, etc.)
  • Able to adapt to a fast-paced work environment
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • 1+ year of work experience in software or web development (internship or full-time role)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • Experience working remotely using collaboration tools such as, but not limited to: MS Teams, SharePoint, Slack, etc.
  • Medical or healthcare background such as biology or public health minor
  • Knowledge of and aptitude in different programming languages

Physical Requirements:

This position is eligible to be performed on a fully remote basis from an individual’s home office and involves sedentary work. In this role, employees can expect to exert up to 10 pounds of force on occasion in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move standard electronic equipment.

  • Ability to make decisions in a timely manner and display emotional intelligence during occasionally stressful situations.
  • Ability to work productively and conduct professional business in a fully remote and/or in-person work environment.
  • Ability to be available during core business hours of 10:00 am to 4:00 pm EST
  • Ability to effectively communicate, including talking and listening/hearing
