The Accountant II is responsible for all areas relating to month end close and financial reporting. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, and year end audit preparation. The position requires a thorough knowledge of governmental accounting principles, practices and procedures and performs statistical analysis.

This position will allow the successful candidate to work a schedule which will include both onsite as well as remote work 2 days a week as approved by their supervisor.

Responsibilities and Duties

Facilitate and complete Month End Close tasks which include but are not limited to the following

  • Prepare and analyze monthly journal entries ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Record journal entries into the accounting system.
  • Analyze expenses to ensure all assets and prepaids have been recorded accurately.
  • Maintain Prepaid and Asset schedules and record monthly journal entries.
  • Prepare and analyze IBNR Calculations making adjustments to settings in calculation as needed.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly accruals, reclasses and allocations.
  • Prepare monthly AR entries for all sources of funding ensuing accuracy and completeness.
  • Complete monthly grant funded salary reclass entries ensuring completeness and monitoring budget caps per grant allocations.
  • Ensure all tasks and entries are completed by the established internal and external deadlines
  • Ensure all tasks are completed in the proper order to ensure the accuracy of the financial statements.
  • Collaborate with Accounts Payable, Payroll and Finance to ensure accuracy of the financials
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations and research/validate balances to ensure an accurate balance sheet.

Responsible for all monthly financial reporting to include internal reports, Board of Director reports, contractual reporting requirements and supplemental reporting.

  • Prepare monthly Board Reports and analyze the financials to inform management of any extraordinary items that should be disclosed to the Board of Directors.
  • Responsible for calculating and analyzing all contractually obligated ratios on a monthly basis ensuring ratios are calculated per contractual requirements.
  • Responsible for completing the contractually obligated monthly DMA Report. The report must be prepared per the guidelines provided by DMA and submitted by the established deadline.
  • Review and analyze the monthly DMA Report to ensure accuracy
  • Research and answer questions from DMA related to the DMA Report.
  • Create and maintain Management Report Writer reports
  • Collaborate with the IT department on creating and maintaining supplemental reports and addressing variances in the reports.

Manage and assist in various financial audits

  • Assist the Accounting Manager with the annual financial audit preparing schedules that reconcile back to the year-end trial balance
  • Responsible for the completion of the semi-annual SB208 audit
  • Assist the Accounting Manager with the with the annual EQRO audit preparing schedules
  • Monitor and analyze current process and schedules to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Create and maintain desk procedure to document how to complete core responsibilities.
  • Assist the Accounting Manager in updating and Maintaining company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for researching and implementing new financial standards.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting, general ledger and company structure.
  • Assist in implementing chart of account changes due to reorganizations or new state requirements.
  • Propose changes to management that would help increase efficiency and accuracy in the department or organization.
  • Will participate on agency wide work teams as needed.
  • Respond to inquiries from the Accounting Manager and other members of management regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
  • Assist the Accountant, Grant Accountant, and Payroll & Cash Receipts Accountant by reviewing journal entries and answering questions.
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration or related field and three years of accounting/auditing experience in the preparation of interpretive, analytical accounting/financial statements and reports, or in governmental financial systems; or a two-year degree in accounting, business administration, or related field and five years of experience as specified above.
  • Additional Training Preferred:
  • Previous experience in a behavior healthcare agency preferred. Strong Excel experience required.

  • Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and their application to cost, governmental accounting, and nongovernmental accounting. Knowledge of program specifics.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable information technology to perform accounting duties. May require ability to develop and implement system change.
  • Ability to monitor and collect and analyze data and to assess the accuracy and integrity of data.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate results, prepare documentation, and create financial reports and/or presentations.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with applicable standards, rules, regulations, and systems of internal control.

  • Ability to compile, monitor, examine, and audit moderately complex financial statements/reports/ accounts or budget codes for accuracy, integrity, and conformance to accounting and program guidelines.

  • Ability to identify substantive issues and thoroughly and accurately research and analyze them.
  • Ability to prepare, disseminate, and interpret financial reports.
  • Ability to identify changing requirements and problems regarding management needs, fiscal procedures, account structures or reports, and accounting systems.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to unusual activity. May require the ability to make corrections related to unusual activities. Ability to evaluate systems of control and recommend improvements/changes.
  • Ability to assess and resolve unprecedented problems that require research and review of policy, procedures, and regulations. Ability to apply judgment for problem resolutions or program requirements based on delegated authority.
  • Ability to prepare written and/or technical products which convey concise, comprehensive, and accurate findings and conform to guidelines. Ability to provide appropriate documentation to support conclusions.

Salary Range

$58,967 to $101,510/Annually
