About the role:

Reader’s Digest (digital) is looking for an Assistant Editor who can help us develop, write, and update lifestyle content on a diverse range of topics and acts as an editorial liaison who works across audience-development teams to ensure the right editorial (and creative) assets are delivered to the right people on a timely basis. Reporting to the Senior Editor, this key role on our enthusiastic, hard-working team seeks a skillful blend of writing and editing talent, community management, and cross-channel collaboration. They will also understand how to tailor content to speak directly to Reader’s Digest readers across all platforms. You’ll also work with the wider Reader’s Digest team to pitch, write, and edit content, and contribute to sitewide efforts such as SEO content planning.

About you:

You are an ambitious editor who’s as comfortable using performance data as a guide for new ideas as you are at identifying trends and new opportunities. Naturally organized, you know how to keep content moving and communicate when delays arise. You have an understanding of community management and what performs on social media and are eager to grow your skills in content strategy. You have a good sense of resilience—you learn from your mistakes quickly and aren’t afraid to keep trying new things.

Your day-to-day:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (social and video) to oversee the development of creative assets, ensuring the teams are provided with what they need for their corresponding channels
  • Collaborate on planning and producing user generated content (UGC) and communications that extend our audience reach and engagement. Example: Participate in planning a social campaign to ask readers how rising gas prices affect their lives and cull top responses for potential editorial inclusion
  • Pitch new story ideas weekly using performance and SEO tools such as Adobe Analytics/Google Analytics and SEMRush
  • Participate in and contribute to SEO-driven content planning and other sitewide content initiatives
  • Update and optimize existing content
  • Assist with internal linking across all content
  • Enthusiastically complete other duties as assigned

You have:

  • College degree in English, journalism, or related field
  • Minimum of 1-2 years proven writing and editing experience
  • Flawless spelling, grammar, and language usage in your writing
  • Basic knowledge of WordPress preferred
  • Ability to openly collaborate, verbally communicate and accept constructive feedback
  • Ability to work autonomously, but also as part of an evolving, dynamic team
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects at one time, consistently meet deadlines and catch all the details
  • Willingness to go above and beyond to achieve traffic goals
  • Working understanding of the digital landscape, including search engine optimization, social media channels and metrics
  • Familiarity with SEO tools (SEMRush, Ahrefs, etc.)
  • Familiarity with internal, affiliate and source linking best practices
