Amazon Web Service’s (AWS) Training and Certification Team is looking for a Learning Experience Designer to design and build hands-on digital learning experiences AWS Cloud Career Education Programs in K12 schools.

Customers are rapidly adopting AWS as a way to build scalable and cost-effective web and IT solutions for their businesses. To do that effectively, they need training to help build their technical skills and develop proficiency with AWS. We are developing highly technical digital eLearning, instructor-led training, and hands-on labs that get customers deep into AWS technologies.

About the role

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Training and Certification Team is looking for a customer-obsessed, detail-oriented Learning Experience Designer, who possesses a unique balance of technical depth, business knowledge, and strong interpersonal skills. This role will be responsible for designing and guiding the development of new and engaging technical AWS training offerings for the K12 audience. You will partner with several program teams at AWS to design and craft content. You will have the opportunity to shape and deliver a strategy for new educational content, services, and features across a breadth of technical domains.

The ideal candidate is an innovative, driven, and problem-solving Learning Experience Designer (Instructional Designer) with experience working across multiple instructional delivery modalities to create high-quality learning experiences, that support our growing learning community. The Learning Experience Designer will curate and design learning solutions that align with the needs of our users, and guide them through their education in cloud services. While the Learning Experience Designer may or may not be steeped in AWS and the Cloud, they should have significant experience with cloud technology subject matter and writing for K12 curricula. The candidate will thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, implementing processes and interfacing with internal teams and external contributors. This role requires project management skills, strategic thinking and problems-solving skills, and strong communication skills. The ideal candidate will be an organized self-starter with a strong bias for action and the ability to work with cross-functional teams to provide guidance for projects.

The content includes digital e-learning through online synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences. Learning is sometimes in a structured, formal classroom learning (ILT) with hands-on labs. Content is intended to inspire learners in cloud technology and achieve basic competencies required to be successful in the marketplace with AWS technologies. The Learning Experience Designer will collaborate with subject matter experts and program managers to plan and design the program offerings. The role requires an individual who is knowledgeable in learning theory and instructional design strategies for performance-based outcomes, who can innovate, move quickly, and not be constrained by how things have been done before.

**This position can be remote, but preference is for candidate to be based near an AWS office location in the following cities: Arlington, Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Jersey City, Seattle, or Vancouver (Canada).

Responsibilities
  • Lead projects through the design lifecycle from scoping, research and analysis, design, development, and launch; providing clear timelines through all phases, communicating with key stakeholders, and selecting appropriate measurement for successful implementation
  • Design the overall learning experience and the technical training content that includes e-learning courses, Instructor Guides, Student Guides, Lab Guides, instructional videos, and other presentation materials by developing Detailed Design Documents and storyboards
  • Identify learning objectives; assess learners, performance outcomes, and evaluative strategies to deliver instruction, including consulting with program owners and subject matter experts to identify performance gaps and learning objectives
  • Dive deep into K12 STEM content and AWS technologies, such as Machine Learning, Big Data, Web Applications, Security, Networking, High Performance Computing, Storage, Databases, Enterprise Applications, Migration Strategies or other solutions areas to understand the services and develop effective training for our customers.
  • Provide feedback and support to curriculum developers on building engaging e-learning interactions (Articulate Rise and Storyline)
  • Be the voice of the learner, ensuring that their needs are at the forefront of our content efforts and help our team iterate and improve on our content offerings
  • Some travel required (up to 10%).

  • Successful record of building effective learning experiences including instructor-led materials, online/e-learning modules, infographics, videos, knowledge assessments and other training materials is a plus
  • Experience as a technical trainer or instructional designer for IT or technical training content
  • Experience as a K12 classroom teacher or equivalent experience in K12 content development
  • Experience working with AWS or another cloud platform
  • Industry certifications in Instructional Design, Project Management, or AWS Cloud
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and xAPI
  • 3+ years in project or program management
  • A keen eye for visual design and experience in design or video editing software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro)
  • LMS implementation and administration
  • Impeccable written and verbal communication skills

The pay range for this position in Colorado is $110,700 - $160,000/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on bonus and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
