Job Summary:

The Payroll Accountant is responsible for performing all aspects of payroll administration for employees, reviewing and processing employee reimbursements, perform internal audit and control procedures to ensure that wages, taxes, expense reporting are accurate. The Payroll Accountant is also responsible for completing payroll account reconciliations in a timely manner as well as various other duties to support the objectives of the Company. The person in this position is expected to develop processes to ensure compliance with internal controls and preserve evidence in support of interim and year-end audit.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Process payroll for hourly, salary, and temporary employees, currently bi-weekly.
  • Implement and maintain payroll best practices to improve efficiency and consult with human resources team to improve payroll
  • Assist in the evaluation and implementation of payroll systems upgrades and changes
  • Work with our payroll provider to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws
  • Proactively collaborate with HR, Finance, and company leaders on payroll matters.
  • Processes monthly billings from health insurance providers, reviews billings for accuracy and approves for payment in a timely manner, and resolves discrepancies with carriers and payroll
  • Prepare accounting entries and month end accounting procedures related to payroll and employee expense reporting.
  • Ensure financial systems and documents comply with laws, policies, standards, and regulations with generally accepted accounting principles and practices
  • Other ad-hoc accounting duties as assigned to meet changing business needs and departmental objectives

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration preferred
  • 3 to 5 years experience in payroll practices, general ledger accounting or a related role
  • Experience processing payroll in ADP is preferred
  • Comprehensive experience in software for payroll, benefits, time & attendance, and self-service system
  • Understanding of payroll processes and procedures
  • Understanding of employee expense reporting processes and procedures
  • Excellent decision making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with ability to research complicated questions/issues and provide subsequent direction to others
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation, and client communication skills—both with internal teams and vendors
  • Superior organizational, time management, and prioritization skills with demonstrated ability to multi-task, effectively delegate, and focus on essential activities
