JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Inventory Accountant is an excellent career-building opportunity for a self-motivated and career-oriented individual. This role will have the primary purpose of leading all accounting activities for the inventory cycle, including accounting, analysis, standard costing, valuation, record keeping and internal controls activities. The Senior Inventory Accountant will be fundamental on developing financial analysis on inventory and key understanding of variances.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of month-end close activities for inventory at multiple locations, related inventory reserves and cost of goods sold
  • Prepares month end journal entries related to inventory and cost of goods sold, including shipping, customs, prepaid inventory, in-transit inventory and interplant transfers, as well as monthly accruals and account reconciliations
  • Reviews and adjusts capitalized costs in inventory
  • Assists with the coordination, execution, and reconciliation of the annual physical inventory and cycle counts
  • Works closely with operations and other cross-functional teams to ensure that all inventory transactions flow through SAP successfully, and that the accounting is consistent with financial reporting
  • Maintains, analyzes and updates standard cost for both domestic and offshore inventory items at and prepare necessary G/L adjustments
  • Partners with the Segment Controller on the development for policies and procedures related to Inventory Accounting
  • Performs period-end financial close responsibilities, including financial statement oversight of one of the company’s foreign manufacturing subsidiaries
  • Facilitates the Accounting Department’s oversight responsibility of inventory transactions, identifies errors and suggests process improvements to ensure accurate inventory value is maintained and accurately reported
  • Analyzes production orders variances at domestic and offshore plants
  • Establishes labor and overhead minute rates for our foreign manufacturing subsidiaries
  • Assists in the documentation and maintenance of inventory sub-processes, including internal controls relating to classification, inventory counts, shipping and receiving

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Accounting or Finance;
  • Minimum 4 years of directly related experience
  • Ability to work independently with the ability to resolve inconsistencies and problems and deliver results with a limited amount of supervision
  • Competent with applying comprehensive understanding of the concepts, practices and procedures relating to the field of cost accounting;
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting standards (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of cost accounting, standard cost and manufacturing processes and systems
  • ERP systems experience preferred (e.g., SAP)
  • Proficient in MS Office, including the ability to perform pivots and V-lookups in Excel.
