PAYROLL & BENEFITS ACCOUNTANT I JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary
Homestead Building Systems, Inc., has been servicing the Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C. Area with the finest truss systems and wall panels for residential construction since 1996. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter with a developed comfort interacting with all departments in an organization.
Responsibilities
- Review data entry by HR Generalists in preparation of biweekly payroll (new hire, re-hires, terminations, transfers, holiday pay, timecards, part-time employee report, employee absence tracking worksheet, etc.)
- Prepares biweekly payroll including manual adjustments, deferred compensation upload, related journal entries and reconciliation.
- Distribute biweekly payroll checks through mail and/or coordination with HR Generalists
- Prepares quarterly internal commission calculations, external commission calculations and related journal entries (if applicable)
- Prepares biweekly reimbursements for employee expenses & other company sponsored programs such as attendance differential, referral bonus, discretionary and non-discretionary bonuses, etc.
- Perform post payroll processing tasks (review new hire compliance report, run GL interface, start new payroll cycle, communicate PTO accrual adjustments, and insurance arrears to be collected to HR, etc.)
- Review weekly & monthly medical insurance carrier premiums, claims and refund journal entries, review department coding, and prepare the fiscal year reconciliation
- Assists with the preparation of year end work papers for insurance audit, workers comp audit, 401K audit, SBCA Wage & Benefit Survey, tax credit study & financial audit
- Prepares monthly production and quarterly distribution labor reporting
- Prepares assigned monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll, tax & unemployment reporting
- Ensures that all tasks, processes, and procedures are documented in One Note / Microsoft Teams
- Support Payroll & Benefits Supervisor with other duties and/or projects as assigned
Education and Experience
- 3 years of payroll experience required
- 1 - 3 years of general ledger experience preferred
- Associates degree in Accounting preferred
- Experience with ADP preferred
- Experience with Great Plains is a plus
- Numeracy and literacy skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
