SUMMARY OF POSITION

Pixelberry Studios is looking for an Editor to edit game scripts and recruit writers for an upcoming project.
Pixelberry is the leading interactive fiction game studio on mobile, and this Editor will help us ensure the
level of high-quality storytelling our players expect, by both reaching out to their network of writing talent
and providing our team with quality feedback. Pixelberry aims to deliver narrative experiences on par with
the best novels, so we’re looking for Editors with a background in fiction.

You will be working as an editor for the best writing team in the business to aid in writer recruitment and
provide feedback on an upcoming new project. You'll work closely with our writers to make sure the
feedback goes in correctly and to create the best possible product. You will provide feedback on all levels,
from copy-editing and detail-tracking, to high-level notes on story structure and character voice. You’ll
also assist in other efforts related to the project, such as project management and adaptation.
Our ideal candidate has a passion for editing fictional works with an understanding of interactive narrative.
They are extremely detail-oriented with excellent copy-editing skills and an understanding of good fiction
writing that lets them provide strong story and character notes. They are able to understand the unique
challenges of interactive fiction and provide feedback specific to the space. They can work on a tight
schedule with regular deadlines and balance multiple projects. Finally, they are able to work well with a
team of writers, which includes the nuances of balancing feedback with encouraging growth.
This is a contract-to-hire position that requires at least 40 hours per week. It can be done remote or
in-person, once the office reopens. Pay rate is competitive, depending on experience, and hourly with the
option of paid overtime.

Our headquarters are in Mountain View, CA but we can accommodate a remote work environment for a candidate from the following states: California, Colorado, Florida, Oregon, Nevada, Texas, and Washington.

Currently, all Pixelberry staff work remotely with the option to work in-office, if desired.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This editor will assist the team in writer recruitment
  • Provide rigorous detail-focused copyediting, such as catching typos, inconsistencies, etc
  • Creative feedback on how to improve the story, including notes on pacing, character-work, and
    voice
  • Game-centric feedback, like how to make choices more compelling
  • In addition, this editor will assist in the development of the project in the following roles:
  • Assisting in larger editorial review and moderation
  • Managing projects with external freelancers, such as maintaining schedule and providing support
  • Facilitating discussions and meetings with writers
  • Assisting in developing models of adaptation


REQUIREMENTS

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience, i.e. editing on a fictional property (movie, game, TV, etc).
  • Contacts within a robust, preexisting talent network strongly preferred
  • Experience working creatively and collaboratively with a team.
  • Knowledge of gaming and game writing preferred.
