User Researcher 🔥

ReUp Education is looking for an experienced User Researcher to help shape the future of our products and services by identifying patterns in and telling compelling stories about user behavior.

You’ll use your research and storytelling skills to inspire change at all stages of product and service development by delivering engaging, insightful, and action-oriented recommendations. Your responsibilities will include conducting research, analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, creating reports and presentations, and helping the team better understand what would make a user’s experience more intuitive, accessible, and seamless.

What we do

Founded in 2015, ReUp Education is the only organization that focuses exclusively on helping colleges and universities engage and re-enroll the more than 40% of US students who have “stopped out” and support them until graduation, through our technology-enabled service. To date, we have re-enrolled nearly 20,000 students, helping 3800 of those students to graduate, and recaptured over $65 million in tuition for our university partners.

What you’ll do

  • Maintain an active and evolving connection to the needs of our learners and learning providers
  • Work cross-departmentally to identify potential areas for research and to gather insights
  • Design and conduct a variety of user research studies, both qualitative and quantitative, to inform product and service design and roadmap
  • Independently scope and strategize your research work
  • Craft compelling narratives about our users’ needs, obstacles, attitudes, aspirations, expectations, and motivations to key stakeholders and drive meaningful action based on those findings
  • Deliver and maintain a database of user insights, helping our team document learnings and plan for the future
  • Leverage secondary research as needed to inform user insights
  • Manage third-party research vendors as necessary (agencies, moderators, etc)
  • Some travel required

Qualifications

(Research shows that women and people from underrepresented groups only apply to jobs if they meet all of the qualifications. However, no one ever meets 100% of the qualifications. ReUp encourages you to break that statistic and to apply. We look forward to your application.)

  • 4+ years of proven experience leading user research projects, ideally at a multi-sided, consumer-focused, product company
  • An interest in understanding and improving user experience at the intersection of product and services
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Factors, Psychology, Anthropology, Communication Studies, Human-Computer Interaction or any related field
  • Expertise in a variety of qualitative research methods and frameworks, such as ethnographies, interview, contextual inquiries, diary studies, personas, user journeys, card sorting, and usability studies
  • Comfort with quantitative research methods, including surveys and basic statistical analysis
  • Strong communication skills. A knack for getting to the heart of the matter, telling stories in a compelling way.
  • Ability to ask, as well as answer, meaningful and impactful research questions.
  • You have hands-on experience shaping product decisions. Familiarity with the levers of product growth and user retention.

Additional

  • An advanced degree in Anthropology, Communication Studies, Human-Computer Interaction or a related field is a bonus
  • You know how to work independently and make difficult trade-offs daily to move work forward
  • You understand the dynamics of the higher-education ecosystem
  • Experience thriving in a startup environment
  • Knowledge of SQL
  • Comfortable challenging the status quo based on research findings
  • Well versed in design trends across app, mobile web, desktop, tablet, etc
