Job summary
Amazon GuardDuty is a customer-facing threat detection service that protects applications and systems running in AWS. GuardDuty processes trillions of events per day and applies advanced analytics and machine learning to detect threats to our customers.

We are seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) with experience testing on visualizations to present customers with both low and high volumes of data in an intuitive way. At Amazon, as a SDET, you will own the quality of the system by ensuring the correctness the GuardDuty public APIs to surface data and insights needed to generate exciting visualizations in the AWS Console. You will build and maintain a new test infrastructure and tools that enable the delivery of high-quality enterprise scale product. You will test new features and functionality to the GuardDuty Console UI to improve customer empowerment and productivity in the context of their security data. You will also have the opportunity to shape the future direction of the GuardDuty product, working closely with a team of front-end engineers, software engineers, and product management to deliver the best customer experience.

Key job responsibilities
  • Design, implement, document, and maintain frameworks for test automation
  • Lead the effort towards simplifying test tools and technologies in terms of efficiency, effectiveness, stability, extensibility, and scalability.
  • Automate tests for our Console and APIs to ensure that they meet the product requirements, and are secure, performant, and scalable.
  • Help maintain CI/CD pipelines.
  • Analyze existing test coverage to identify holes and gaps.
  • Work with developers to ensure they understand and follow best practices for unit and integration tests.
  • Participate in the product development life-cycle, including requirements gathering, design review and code review process.
  • Help identify bugs and validate fixes, and ensure that our product code is operationally complete.
  • Lead and actively participate in design review, test planning and tools reviews, aligning teams across the organization towards a coherent test and test tool strategy.

  • Experience with TestNG as a test framework
  • Demonstrated experience doing security testing
  • Experience with API testing via PostMan
  • Familiarity with load and performance testing
  • Understanding of system and application performance characteristics
  • Automation experience (test, integration, build/release) in a distributed environment
  • Demonstrated ability to own, design, lead and implement test strategies for complex applications and deployment topologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and create/explain/defend technical designs
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Experience providing technical leadership for and mentoring/training of other engineers on best practices to achieve and maintain high quality standards
  • Experienced in Kanban or Scrum software development methodologies
  • Experience working with AWS technologies like CloudWatch, CloudFormation, and Lambda

The pay range for this position in Colorado is $143,650 - 194,349 (yr); however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on bonus and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
