Writer/editor Corporate Brand 🔥

You’re an exceptional writer and editor (with at least five years of experience doing that professionally).
In this role, you’ll rely on your skills and talent…

The world isn’t standing still, and neither is Allstate. We’re moving quickly, looking across our businesses and brands and taking bold steps to better serve customers’ evolving needs. That’s why now is an exciting time to join our team. You’ll have opportunities to take risks, challenge the status quo and shape the future for the greater good.

You’ll do all this in an environment of excellence and the highest ethical standards – a place where values such as integrity, inclusive diversity and accountability are paramount. We empower every employee to lead, drive change and give back where they work and live. Our people are our greatest strength, and we work as one team in service of our customers and communities. Plus, Allstate is changing how, when, and where we work-to lead us boldly into our future. We're empowering our employees to create better ways of working through more intentional use of communication and collaboration practices, processes and tools.

Everything we do at Allstate is driven by a shared purpose: to protect people from life’s uncertainties so they can realize their hopes and dreams. For more than 89 years we’ve thrived by staying a step ahead of whatever’s coming next – to give customers peace of mind no matter what changes they face. We acted with conviction to advocate for seat belts, air bags and graduated driving laws. We help give survivors of domestic violence a voice through financial empowerment. We’ve been an industry leader in pricing sophistication, telematics, digital photo claims and, more recently, device and identity protection. We are the Good Hands. We don’t follow the trends. We set them.

Job Summary:

Across the company, Allstaters are creating the future of protection. They’re finding new ways to give people the confidence and freedom to pursue their hopes and dreams. Our job in Corporate Brand is to make sure this is the Allstate people see. They know what we do for our customers, our people and society – and admire us for it.

On the Storytelling team, we figure out which stories to tell and the best ways to tell them to engage and influence everyone from employees and Allstate agents to consumers and opinion leaders. We use audience research and other insights to grab their attention and make a powerful impression in this era of information overload.

Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you’ll rely on your skills and talent as a writer, editor and strategic thinker to create stories that cut through the noise and move audiences to action and advocacy. That involves creating content (articles, speeches, foundational narratives, videos and more), providing counsel and finding new ways to help others become better storytellers.

More specifically, you’ll make sure our communications:

  • have an authentic voice
  • approach topics from the audience’s perspective
  • are easy to understand and enjoyable to read, see or hear
  • avoid corporate jargon, canned messages and buzzwords
  • achieve the intended audience outcome

Functional Skills:

  • You’re an exceptional writer and editor (with at least five years of experience doing that professionally).
  • You can make the complex simple – and interesting.
  • You know the power of voice and how to use it to write with character and personality.
  • Seeing things from the audience’s perspective comes naturally to you.
  • You’re curious and bold. Full of ideas. And you love finding new ways to grab an audience’s attention.
  • When competing interests collide, you lead the way forward with confidence and charisma.
  • You’re not afraid to tell it like it is, and you can do that in a way that strengthens relationships.
  • You love working with a group but also do well on your own.
  • Juggling multiple projects doesn’t faze you, and you still meet every deadline with results that make you proud.
  • The basics – research, reporting, grammar, Associated Press style – are second nature to you.
  • You have a bachelor’s degree in journalism or a closely related field. (We’d strongly prefer this, but if this is the only qualification you’re missing, let’s chat.)
