Staff Accountant 🔥


Princeton University Press (PUP), one of the top academic publishers, seeks a Staff Accountant to join the Accounting and Finance team for an organization of about 150 employees. This role is responsible for assisting in the general accounting function including monthly journal entries, accounts receivables and the inventory function. The incumbent must be able to cope with and effectively manage a changing environment. They must be comfortable working in a team environment while being self-motivated. This candidate will also possess the ability to interact with a diversity of individuals, work independently, maintain confidentiality, and the desire to take on new challenges. This is a full-time position with comprehensive benefits and can be 100% remote or hybrid.



Core Responsibilities:

  • Maintains inventory function, which includes the Microsoft Dynamics SL modules of Purchasing, Order Management, Inventory, and Project Management.
  • Assists in the month end close procedures, i.e. journal entries, analysis and account reconciliations. This includes the work in process to inventory process.
  • Assists in the preparation of monthly financial statements, annual reports and ad hoc reports and analysis as needed.
  • Maintain the account receivable function including, but not limited to: Inventory accounts receivable, billing and subsidies.
  • Supports the account payable function as needed.
  • Assists departments with accounting issues and various analyses and provide monthly reporting to compare actual spending vs budget.
  • Where applicable, identify areas to improve workflow and improve documentation. Assist management in implementing efficiencies and improvement measures.
  • Participate in special projects on an as needed basis.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in an accounting position.
  • Accounting degree from a four-year college or university preferred but not required, or equivalent experience.
  • Audit experience is a plus.
  • Strong technical and analytical aptitude.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including intermediate/advanced Excel skills. Must be proficient in determining the excel formulas to be used to obtain specific results from large amounts of data.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics SL ERP system is a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, multi-task, and coordinate efforts across functions.
  • Excellent written, verbal, communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all levels of colleagues.

Base Salary:
$60,000/year plus extensive benefits package. Starting salary may be negotiable based on relevant skills and prior experience.
