POSITION SUMMARY:

Born out of a tragic school shooting, March For Our Lives (MFOL) is a courageous youth-led movement dedicated to promoting civic engagement, education, and direct action by youth to eliminate the epidemic of gun violence. Our people are motivated by our mission, and we are proud of the contribution that our staff makes to the world. Legal Associates lead MFOL’s work defending the constitutional rights of young people. Associates will play an active role in guiding MFOL legal strategy, both directly within the courts and to the public. Associates will hold and maintain critical partnership and coalition relationships, including with external organizations, scholars, and advocacy partners. Associates will have the opportunity to lead major legal projects, including authoring amicus briefs, contributing to legal scholarship, and leading educational programming.

While this is a part-time position, the Associate is expected to prioritize their work with MFOL in a way that ensures they are able to meet deadlines and follow through on their internal and external responsibilities on a weekly basis without fail. MFOL is a youth-driven organization, and as a result, qualified applicants who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate institution or have other part - or full-time commitments are highly encouraged to apply.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research and track litigation and actions relevant to MFOL interests, including but not limited to Second Amendment jurisprudence and gun violence prevention and programming, as well as voting and protest rights;
  • When applicable, create and maintain memos, briefs and summaries for internal use, recommending case involvement or for informational purposes;  
  • Work with pro bono attorneys and other internal and external partners in support of relevant federal and state litigation;
  • Create educational material on constitutional and related issues for public-facing messaging campaigns and the MFOL network
  • Collaborate with law professors and legal scholars to craft new constitutional arguments around gun violence prevention;
  • Participate in weekly team meetings, monthly staff meetings and and other ad hoc meetings as necessary;
  • Take on other duties, as assigned.
