Devops Engineering Lead 🔥
To support Embark’s rapid growth, we are spinning the DevOps function into a dedicated team that will be responsible for driving the vision and direction of DevOps at Embark. We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer with leadership experience who can be a significant technical contributor and is excited to build a high-performing team to accelerate engineering efforts across Embark.
Role Responsibilities
- Building a high-performing DevOps team to scale Embark through a period of rapid growth
- Work closely with all engineering teams across Embark to build systems and services that accelerate the productivity of every engineer
- Foster a team culture that is collaborative, inclusive and high-performing
- Be a hands-on technical contributor. As the leader of a new team, you should feel comfortable contributing to any part of our DevOps stack.
Responsibilities of the DevOps Team
- CI Platform: he DevOps team is responsible for the development and maintenance of core CI at Embark, providing teams with a simple process to spin up new CI pipelines rapidly with full integration with the rest of Embark’s infrastructure. Integrations with static analysis, simulation testing and other complex validation is standard within CI at Embark.
- Deployment: Building and maintaining infrastructure to manage and track deployments of new software to our vehicles and to the cloud.
- Observability: Building a platform for observability that makes it easy to add monitoring and failure alerting to any new system. Managing and extending integrations with logging, metric and alerting platforms.
- Configuration Management: Managing the dependencies and configuration of various server types, as well as automating provisioning of in-vehicle, on-premises, cloud, and developer machines.
- Solving DevOps problems that are unique to the self-driving space. Building systems to directly support machine learning, vehicle testing and simulation represent complex DevOps challenges.
Expected Experience
- Demonstrated experience leading a high-performing team. You have previously managed a small team focused on DevOps. You should be comfortable hiring, setting objectives, managing execution and growing a team.
- Excellent communication skills. You’re expected to work closely with engineering leaders across Embark, and this requires strong written and verbal communication skills.
- 2+ years of experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet or Chef.
- 2+ years of experience managing infrastructure on a major cloud platform (AWS, GCP or Azure) to support a fast-growing team.
- 2+ years of experience with managing CI/CD platforms such as Jenkins, TravisCI, CircleCI. Scaling experience will be a plus.
- 2+ years of experience with a scripting language. Python and Bash are competing for the title of our favorite scripting languages!
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code frameworks such as Terraform, CloudFormation.
