About The Team
The systems cloud team is responsible for over 10 Billion (yes with a B) requests per day and growing. These requests handle our critical location and event data as well as the processing and annotation that occurs once it reaches our system. We work to both understand the short term needs of our business along with the long term needs of our technology and architecture.
About the Job
As a member of our Staff Engineering group, you:
- Are a functional specialist who makes impact through either your technical depth and/or your ability to lead a group of engineers
- Are the go-to expert for your function
- Have the ability to create and execute quarterly technical goals
- Able to lead and vanguard our most complicated and high scale services
- Be an active mentor and advance the skills of lower level engineers.
- Act as a force multiplier to improve those around you through technology
What You’ll Do:
Examples of work you will be doing:
- Design a scalable generalized event system able to handle 1 million RPS with a mix of real-time and batched events
- Build a cost effective method of handling stream processing for billions events per day
- Evaluate and integrate new technologies and processes to improve our tech stack and ability to build quality services
- Help define a roadmap and solutions that meet the needs of multiple teams and projects with generic and unified systems
What We’re Looking For
- BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar quantitative field or the equivalent number of years experience
- 10+ years of software development experience
- Proficient in JVM languages. This team uses primarily Java (Spring Boot)
- A polyglot with familiarity working within environments with multiple languages
- Excellent understanding of data stores, distributed systems, data modeling and their associated pitfalls and tradeoffs
- Experience with and understanding the building blocks to building highly scalable systems
- 4+ years experience with microservices
- Experience with the AWS environment and its various tools or other cloud platforms
- Bonus: Proficient in building time sequenced event pipelines
- Bonus: Expertise with Kafka and stream processing frameworks like Flink or Spark
