The Voting Rights Lab is a campaign hub designed to supercharge the fight against voter suppression and build more equitable voting systems. In partnership with organizations across the country, we work to build winning state legislative campaigns to secure, protect, and defend the voting rights of all Americans.

The Voting Rights Lab is looking for a Manger of Hiring & Onboarding to develop and execute on a plan to recruit and retain diverse and highly qualified candidates as VRL continues to grow and expand. This role will report to the Senior Director of People & Operations, and work closely with hiring managers across the organization.

For this role, we are looking for someone with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in hiring and/or staff management positions including: running hiring searches for a range of positions at advocacy organizations; and managing, onboarding and training new staff.

This is a fully remote position. Candidates across the country are encouraged to apply.

This position will require occasional travel.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Create and drive a hiring plan for the year, in consultation with VRL leadership, that ensures we meet our overall staffing goals
  • Work with hiring managers to draft job descriptions with clearly defined roles, create candidate profiles that identify top qualities and characteristics, and design hiring processes to drive towards these goals, while also ensuring equitable hiring practices
  • Create and manage systems and materials to run hiring searches specifically for each position that result in a highly qualified and diverse candidate pool at every stage in the hiring process
  • Work with staff directors and VRL leadership team to create onboarding plans that orient new staff to VRLs culture, values, and systems, as well as prepare them to be successful in their role
  • Drive and execute all aspects of hiring including advertising roles, reviewing applicants, interviewing candidates, shepherding finalists through the process, checking references, making offers and onboarding
  • Manage all aspects of human resources at VRL including assisting staff in enrolling and utilizing benefits; sharing updates, deadlines and changes with staff; communicating payroll changes to our fiscal sponsor
  • Continue to build an explicit equity lens into our hiring & HR, and what it will take to get there. Manage the entire process to reflect VRL’s Values and Theory of Change
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience in human resources and/or staff management positions including: running hiring searches for a range of positions at issue advocacy organizations; managing, onboarding and developing staff; and overseeing and supporting human resources needs with staff
  • Proven track record in clearly defining roles and responsibilities, identifying what characteristics and experiences are critical for success in a given position, and designing equitable and inclusive hiring processes that result in diverse and highly qualified candidates
  • Ability and desire to be a resource that can help staff utilize and understand their benefits and how to access them
  • Experience working with diverse communities and committed to acting on the belief that racial equity and social justice are critical components of our work
