Position Summary

Over Zero, a project of Hopewell Fund, seeks a Director of Training & Education. This new position is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about working closely with a diverse set of partners, is energized by translating complex concepts and academic research into actionable tools, and has a deep interest in understanding complex conflict dynamics in the U.S. and globally.

The Director of Training & Education is primarily a content development-focused position that is central to Over Zero’s global work, particularly our U.S. programs. The position will serve as the lead in developing curricula - from training to toolkits - for Over Zero’s diverse partners. This includes developing and tailoring training content for different audiences; ensuring our content is up-to-date and accessible to different audiences; managing our digital library and resources; and leading trainings, workshops, and other educational programming as needed.

This is a remote position. Once it is safe, some travel may be required to lead trainings and attend meetings.

About Over Zero

Over Zero, a project of the Hopewell Fund, was founded to reduce, prevent, and create long-term societal resilience to identity-based violence and other forms of group-targeted harm. We specifically focus on the role of communication in either fueling or counteracting violence.

Our work in the U.S. is focused on: 1) preventing political and identity-based violence by equipping leaders from different sectors with tools for violence prevention and response; and 2) conducting and translating relevant research into practice. Throughout our work, we collaborate with a range of academics, researchers, and practitioners globally. Responsibilities and Tasks

As the Director of Training & Education, the following would represent the main areas of your work:

Training and curriculum development, adaptation, and iteration

  • Work across departments to develop training curricula and translate complex concepts from research into accessible tools for civil society.
  • Lead in the development and design of educational materials for partners, including trainings, workshops, memos, toolkits, online resources, and exercises and activities to be used virtually and in person.
  • Update Over Zero trainings, online resources, and other educational materials as partner needs, surrounding dynamics, and research evolve.
  • Deliver trainings to partner organizations and their stakeholder networks, as needed, both virtually and in person (once possible based on COVID-related precautions).
  • Manage and support partner input and engagement for co-created trainings.
  • Manage partner relationships and content feedback processes for the design of educational materials.
  • Attend relevant meetings and events to build relationships and establish Over Zero’s presence.
  • Identify opportunities for engagement.
  • Work with the Research and Program teams to implement training evaluation plans (e.g., tracking training information, delivering surveys, etc.).
  • Contribute to funding proposals and reports as needed.
  • 4-6 years of relevant experience developing trainings or educational resources and curriculum
  • Experience in a relevant field - e.g., education, human rights, peacebuilding, communications, social psychology, conflict/violence prevention, etc.
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong interest in working to prevent political and identity-based violence and other forms of group-targeted harm
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Experience with a variety of software programs, including Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and Keynote
  • Skills in formatting and graphic design (for designing document and training materials)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexible and adaptive to manage shifting priorities and deliver results
  • Proactive approach to solving problems
  • Adept at anticipating and planning for future needs
  • Excellent relationship management skills
  • Ability to thrive in a small team environment
  • 7+ years of experience
  • Competency or fluency in a language other than English
  • Experience in group facilitation and public speaking
  • Experience with or certification in instructional design
  • Basic web design skills
