Climate Tech Editor 🔥

The Position

Are you a tenacious and prolific journalist excited about covering applied and information technologies for addressing climate change? Do you want to be part of a dynamic media company dedicated to accelerating a just transition to a clean economy?

GreenBiz is seeking a driven individual to lead its Editorial coverage of the dynamic climate tech ecosystem — including agtech, carbontech, zero-emissions transportation approaches, microgrids and renewable energy technologies.

In this new Editorial role, you’ll establish GreenBiz as an authority about startups, venture capitalists and corporate champions of climate tech through articles, newsletters and other media. The individual will report to the Editorial Director, and collaborate closely with members of the company’s Editorial, Events and Startup Programming teams. While our headquarters is in Oakland, California (temporarily remote), the location is flexible, depending on the candidate. We will entertain remote and on-location scenarios.

In your cover letter, please describe why you are the right person to elevate our coverage of climate tech to the next level.

Responsibilities

  • Become an authority on climate tech by writing frequent articles for GreenBiz.com; we’re especially interested in candidates who have existing connections and a social media presence within climate tech
  • Write and edit a GreenBiz newsletter focused on this topic; weekly to start, with a planned update in frequency anticipated before the end of 2022
  • Brainstorm with Editorial team to guide and shape climate tech coverage
  • Edit articles about climate tech submitted by the GreenBiz contributor network, including freelancers, staff editors and others
  • Contribute to GreenBiz podcast programming and other digital media, such as Twitter Spaces
  • Collaborate with the GreenBiz VERGE event content team as needed — to orchestrate relevant coverage, moderate/lead sessions and help shape programs for the climate tech startup community
  • 3 to 5 years experience with a digital media or news organization (preferred; we're flexible for the right candidate)
  • A demonstrated history of covering technology; you'll really catch our attention if you have a history of covering climate tech
  • Experience with digital publishing platforms; knowledge of Drupal and Marketo a plus
  • Excellent writing skills, with attention to detail and an appreciation for effective headlines and story-telling visuals
  • The ability to closely collaborate with a distributed team of staff editors and authors, as well as a network of freelance contributors
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines, adjust to changes in priorities and balance short-term needs with long-term strategic initiatives
  • Experience in moderating webcasts and/or event sessions
  • In support of GreenBiz Group’s desire to provide and maintain a safe workplace, we are requiring all employees be vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19. This policy will comply with all applicable laws and will follow scientific guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health authorities, as applicable.
