Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to prevent environmental causes of breast cancer through community education, research advocacy, and changes to public policy.

As principal support staff for the Executive Director, the Events & Administrative Consultant will perform skilled administrative services across a range of areas, including but not limited to sponsor outreach, event planning, program management, and policy & advocacy. The Events and Administrative Consultant continually looks for ways to improve the efficiency and visibility of the organization’s educational and advocacy work towards the goal of breast cancer prevention.

This is primarily a part-time, telecommuting position during morning hours, Monday - Friday. Additionally, some in-state travel is required for occasional events and presentations. Applicants will be responsible for their own tax withholding, and must have a home office that meets minimum qualifications (computer, internet, telephone line). MBCC does not reimburse for office-related expenses. Applicants in the Cape Cod or South Shore area strongly preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Online Communications & Public Relations

·      Manage and update online content including website content, eNewsletters via Constant Contact, and social media sites. This includes locating and summarizing relevant environmental health and breast cancer prevention news and journal articles.

·      Compose polished calendar listings and press releases for MBCC including special events and educational or advocacy campaigns.

·      Initiate contact with media outlets across the state via phone and email regarding the publication of MBCC materials including calendar listings, press releases, feature stories, op-ed articles, and more.

·      Provide support to Executive Director with drafting talking points for speaking engagements and media interviews, and outreach letters as needed.

·      Identify and complete applications for funding and sponsorship of MBCC’s programs and events.

·      Provide support for existing and new projects including drafting and/or proofing educational materials, maintaining professional stakeholder communications, managing a timeline of MBCC’s responsibilities in partnerships with sponsors.

·      Potential opportunity to create, plan, and implement new campaigns and community education projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

o   B.A. with 3-5 years of relevant work experience or M.A. with 1-2 years of work experience

o   Knowledge of issues related to environmental health and breast cancer prevention

o   Strong written and verbal communication skills

o   Ability to work under the pressure of strict deadlines

o   Public relations and marketing experience

o   Experienced with time management, meticulous and detail oriented, able to manage a large volume of email and phone messages

o   Participatory work style and ability to receive feedback

o   Experience with Microsoft Office (primarily Word and Excel) is mandatory.

o   Experience with Constant Contact and social media outreach strongly preferred.

o   Familiarity with WordPress is preferred.
