Position Description

Development Manager is primarily responsible for creating, administering, implementing, and leading the organization’s development plans (in a typical year, we raise $1M in sponsorship). This includes developing and implementing a growth strategy, organizing outreach efforts, and managing relationships with existing and new funders.

To be successful, our ideal candidate has the following skills:   

  • Communication: Significant time is spent communicating with sponsors, staff, and committees. Verbal and written communication skills are key to success.       
  • Organization: Self-starter able to juggle several development projects simultaneously; organized to keep all details top of mind.
  • Teamwork: Ability to organize, motivate, and lead volunteers to increase fundraising.
  • Development: Proven ability to locate, develop, and close new relationships; maintain and build upon existing relationships.
  • Strategic Thinker: Projects and initiatives must align with the goals of the organization. Strategy skills include the ability to formulate plans to stay within budgets and timelines and handle unexpected events. Manager must have the professional judgement necessary to discern important details that affect a project from those that do not.
  • Leadership: Ability to be proactive and take the lead on projects and initiatives.
  • Agility: Manager must adapt and innovate to deliver benefits to NAWL sponsors and stakeholders in an ever-changing world. Manager must creatively maximize value to sponsors and stakeholders.

Primary Duties

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to create a diversified development plan which increases brand awareness and revenue to support NAWL’s mission and strategic direction.    
  • Provide friendly, funder-centered customer service and represent NAWL and our mission in a professional and positive manner.
  • Work collaboratively across NAWL to maximize funder engagement and recognition.
  • Manage sponsorship relationships from outreach and confirmation to fulfillment of benefits and renewals.
  • Stay informed and current on development trends and key markets.
  • Manage funder data and prepare monthly reports.
  • Responsible for preparing, revising, and tracking correspondence, such as solicitation notes and thank you letters.

Education & Experience

Must have bachelor’s degree from a four-year university. 3+ years of experience in development or marketing and experience in legal or non-profit field preferred.

Compensation

Salary is between $50,000-$60,000 commensurate with experience.  Health and dental benefits, paid time off, and disability coverage provided.
