Associate Director Of Camp and Outdoor Program 🔥


Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (“GSEMA”) is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Associate Director of Camp and Outdoor Program.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Outdoor Program and Facilities, the Associate Director of Camp and Outdoor Program, will oversee the development of camp/outdoor curriculum and the implementation of outdoor education and camping programs. They will be responsible for the effective operation and staff supervision for outdoor programs and day camps throughout the council.

This is a mobilized / hybrid work arrangement with work from home, at designated GSEMA service centers, in communities served, and at designated GSEMA properties as needed. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide supervision, and establish supportive relationships with camp directors, outdoor program and summer camp staff.
  • Assist with the recruitment and hiring of highly qualified part-time outdoor facilitators and seasonal summer camp staff.
  • Manage and implement year-round camp and outdoor programs- examples include: high and low challenge course, camping, archery, boating, backpacking and snowshoeing. 
  • Leverage the use of GSEMA properties and amenities to deliver accessible and progressive outdoor experiences that are inclusive to all GSEMA members and outside user groups.
  • Develop and oversee the administration of outdoor adventure, camping and specialized equipment trainings/certifications for staff and volunteers.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate, outdoor curricula that is based on Girl Scouts’ interests, youth development trends, Girl Scout programming, and council objectives.
  • Adhere to all Girl Scout health and safety standards, American Camp Association Standards of Accreditation, the council’s risk management plan and local, state, and federal laws. 
  • Collaborate with membership staff to promote and increase access to outdoor program/camp opportunities to increase recruitment and retention of Girl Scout members. 
  • Assist in the development of marketing and fund development strategies that support outdoor program/camp strategies and goals. 
  • Contribute to managing department budgets, grant projects, and ensure programs are cost effective and in line with department goals.

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • 2-5 years of experience in developing, conducting and/or supervising innovative outdoor/camp education programs.
  • 2-5 years of experience in supervising, coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Some college education preferred, certifications in related field a plus.
  • Experience in developing budgets; ability to manage financial resources effectively. 
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software.
  • Adept at utilizing social networking; experience using Salesforce or demonstrated ability to learn and become proficient with new technology. 
  • Capacity to, independently and as part of a team, plan, organize and prioritize work, while managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to effectively identify, analyze and solve practical problems and successfully manage a variety of variables and personalities; ability to adapt in a changing environment.
  • Requires transporting supplies to a variety of partners; ability to lift and manipulate up to 20 pounds. 
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, and be willing to travel throughout the Council footprint.
