Who We Are Looking For:

The League of American Bicyclists is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to help bring the League’s Bicycle Friendly America (BFA) program to the streets of every community in the nation. This new role will support local decision makers and advocates alike in their efforts to improve lives through better bicycling, both by helping to make the BFA program more accessible and inclusive, and by helping to ensure that the program reflects the needs of local bicyclists.

Responsibilities will include proactive outreach and engagement with state and local advocates and BFA program users, coordinating virtual and in-person trainings on the BFA program, helping to launch a new BFA mini-grant program, expanding and improving resources to support local efforts to implement BFA program feedback, and other general day-to-day BFA program support. The ideal candidate for this position is familiar with the planning and local legislation process, has experience in local bike advocacy, and shares a passion for creating a more Bicycle Friendly America for everyone.

Job Responsibilities:

● Supporting the day-to-day operations of the Bicycle Friendly America program, including working with community, business, and university applicants, coordinating with review teams, administering local surveys, and generating feedback reports.

● Engaging with local and statewide advocates and other local partners to share information and resources, as well as to solicit input and feedback.

● Helping to develop and curate new resources for local advocates, decision makers, and other BFA program users.

● Helping to launch and administer a new local mini-grant program, including developing the grant application, conducting outreach, overseeing the review and selection of applications, and oversight of grants.

● Organizing and coordinating webinars and virtual trainings, as well as in-person workshops.

● Collaborating with League communications, policy, and program staff to increase coordination across programs.

● Helping to identify and implement program changes to reflect the input and needs of local bicyclists.

Desired skills/background:

● Knowledge and experience of planning and local government processes such as an undergraduate planning degree or prior work experience with transportation planning.

● Exposure to or experience with local bicycle, transportation equity, and/or active transportation advocacy.

● Familiarity with the Bicycle Friendly America program.

Qualifications:

● Ability to communicate effectively with people of all ages, abilities, cultural backgrounds, political affiliations, economic status, gender identities, and sexual orientations

● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

● Strong writing and communication skills

● Tech savvy and able to learn new software or programs quickly

● Experience with design or publishing platforms or applications ● Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects or tasks at a time

● Self-starter who enjoys working collaboratively in teams and also thrives working independently

● Enthusiasm for the League’s mission to create a more Bicycle Friendly America for everyone and a desire to help others do this work at the local level
