Through a combination of mentoring and transformative experiences, Summer Search supports young people to successfully transition from adolescence into adulthood. We aim to unleash the potential of our young people while also building a toolkit for navigating and challenging systemic barriers to higher education and career opportunities. 

 

THE OPPORTUNITY

Summer Search is seeking a Program Manager to play a crucial role in supporting the program design and implementation of the evolving Summer Search Program Model focused on our programming for participants in their senior year of high school through 6 years after high school graduation. This Program Manager will use their content areas expertise to lead a network-wide launch of our Post-Secondary programming in August 2022 and see through the first year of implementation through September 2023. This new position offers an exciting opportunity to use Post-Secondary program expertise and project management to contribute to the collective program improvement at a national non-profit. As part of the National Program Team, this hire will join a team committed to continuous learning, wellbeing, and social and racial justice.

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Project Management

  • Manage and evolve a detailed work plan to launch our redesigned Post-Secondary programming for participants in years 2-6 after high school in August 2022.
  • Develop authentic and collaborative relationships with Post-Secondary staff stakeholders through listening, co-creating an inclusive process, and communicating effectively.
  • Lead internal working groups of staff across sites, assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables. 

Program Design

  • In collaboration with the Senior Director of Program Quality, support the development of a consistent and cohesive program model that drives to effectively support students to develop toward our participant outcomes. 
  • Develop and document national programming through inclusive processes, leveraging expertise of staff in contributing roles and best-in-field practices.
  • In partnership with the Senior Director of Program Quality, develop program quality standards for activities in the Post-Secondary program
  • Identify and launch continuous learning internal structures and processes required to maintain and update content and resources.

Program Implementation Strategy & Support

  • In collaboration with NA Director of Program Implementation, guide development of local-site implementation plans including recommendations for staffing and structures to support implementation
  • Monitor initial implementation of piloted elements of our Post-Secondary program
  • Ensure local site staff have access to the trainings aligned with the Post-Secondary programming. This may include developing training content and supporting in the delivery of trainings.
  • Manage national memberships related to participant outcomes and areas of programming.

 

WHO YOU ARE

Strong candidates will bring:

  • EXPERIENCE: At least 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the non-profit field, in youth development, higher education, career development or similar organizations. Experience leading program design initiatives and experience at a multi-site non-profit a plus.
  • CULTURAL COMPETENCE: Recognizes sociopolitical barriers and understands the systems of oppression that operate in day-to-day lives of stakeholders e.g. students/participants, staff members, donors, community partners, alumni, volunteers. Applies critical thinking and takes action against the oppressive aspects of reality
  • INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Track record of building authentic partnerships that demonstrate respect, empathy, and connection. Strong communicator with the ability to inspire a variety of diverse internal and external audiences. Proven ability to solve problems creatively.  
  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT: A strong familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices and experience seeing projects through the full life cycle including the ability to remain organized and composed while juggling multiple workflows and logistics.
  • ENTREPRENEURIAL MINDSET: Resourcefulness and a “get it done” attitude, with the ability to drive innovation, change, and growth and maintain a high degree of flexibility and creativity in a dynamic environment. Ability to integrate best practices with new thinking and approaches.
  • ADAPTABILITY: Ability to adapt to unexpected situations while maintaining values aligned orientation to work. Demonstration of resiliency in the face of challenges and positivity in navigating change.

LOCATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Location is flexible with the option of working remotely, out of our National office in Oakland or regional offices in New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, or Seattle, or a combination of the two once offices are reopened. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this position will be performed fully remotely until further notice, with potential for limited working days in the office if desired. This hire must reside in one of their following states by their first day of employment: California, Washington, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, North Carolina, or Colorado.

 

Summer Search requires all its staff be vaccinated against COVID-19. Employees who are unable to be vaccinated due to a medical reason or sincerely held religious objection may be able to qualify for an exemption, consistent with state and federal law.
