Position Overview

We’re looking for a talented Digital Media Producer to join our small, but mighty creative team for a fast-growing, passionate, fun, and youthful nonprofit brand. As the Digital Media Producer, you will work on a wide variety of projects for our social media, website, Marketo (e-mail marketing), and events. You will concentrate on building out our motion graphics, photography, live and animated videos, gifs, and audio creative. You could be animating recruitment campaign assets, photographing our AmeriCorps members in service at schools, designing motion backgrounds for a fundraising gala, setting up stop-motion gifs for a social media campaign, cutting together existing footage to create a new video story, or shooting and editing video for an advertisement series. While you will report directly to the VP & Creative Director, we are all about sharing and helping each other with our entire creative team. Your work here will spread across the City Year network – in offices, at events, in the schools we serve in, and on the campuses we recruit. Your creativity will support our goal of helping students stay in school and on track to graduate from high school, ready for college and career success.Job Description

Responsibilities

Work collaboratively with our team, the national staff, site staff across the country, and vendors

Participate in collaborative brainstorms, concept development, and creative mock-ups. Present visual ideas, design rationale, and detail to the team and partners. Interpret needs, objectives, and direction from multiple sources to ensure creative concepts meet business goals. Assist novice video creators across the network to maximize impact with the tools and capacity at their disposal; help with project direction, sharing best practices, ensuring brand management.

Animation/Video

Take the lead on animation videos, motion graphics, editing and shooting video clips, and adding graphic elements (e.g. lower-thirds, start and end cards, etc.). You will be directing, crafting and editing the content including assembling assets, visual storyboarding, through to final delivery and file management. Identify strategic uses for motion graphics, short-, and long-form video for our varied audiences, see projects through from conception to finish. Work closely with our social media team to brainstorm and create engaging video assets.

Responsible for all areas of editing across sound mixing, color grading, subtitles, re-versioning, with quick turnarounds, using recommended services and subscriptions.

Respond to Creative Requests

As a team, we review new project requests from City Year’s Headquarters and sites two times a week, and you will elect or be tasked with ownership of the creative for various motion, video, and photo projects.

Photography

You will be responsible for photographing our corps members in service to keep our photobank stocked and constantly evolving. You will manage our storage and organization on our servers and on SmugMug. You will work with our sites across the country to identify photo opportunities or collect assets from shoots they do locally.

Brand Management

Assist in developing a scalable content and aesthetic strategy for all motion creative; ensuring content is on-brand and consistent in style, quality, and tone of voice

Illustration                             

If you have skills in illustration this will come in handy for the animation, but can also be used for other still design projects.

Requirements:

  • Experience working for an in-house team is a plus, but not required, nonprofit experience/experience working in or with communities of color a plus
  • Experience with creating motion graphics, and potentially animation videos
  • Experience with creation of video content to support marketing campaigns, shooting, editing & production of videos.
  • Strong understanding of all phases of pre-production, production and post-production.
  • Enthusiasm to push what City Year can do with digital video in online environments and have strong storytelling sensibility.
  • Excellent knowledge of the video, audio, graphic & post-production process as well as social media technologies and digital platforms.
  • Fresh and modern aesthetic sensibility that effortlessly fits in with (and adds to) our unique brand. Your work should demonstrate a strong eye for design, a respect for brand standards, a love of experimentation, and a command of technology. Strong typographical skills are important – if you heart kerning, you rock.
  • Ability to take direction and feedback professionally.
  • Ability to excel in a deadline-oriented, dynamic, fluid environment that values creative problem solving, attention to detail, proactive project and client management, and collaborative teamwork.
  • Advanced proficiency in latest Mac operating system and advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud apps is required.
  • Advanced proficiency in Premiere, After Effects
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and Lightroom, all desired, but not necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel is required.
