Blue Heart Program Director

About BH

Blue Heart funds grassroots organizations building the political power of low-income communities and communities of color. In turn, we help develop and inspire an ethic of philanthropy in young folks seeking to engage with social and environmental justice issues.

Every month, we feature a different community-led, grassroots organization in the Bay Area and nationally. We send our members stories from frontline movement builders, political education to understand the context and history of their movements, and a set of action opportunities to engage further. Our members make recurring monthly donations, the majority of which goes directly to our grassroots partner organizations. And a portion goes to our Creator's Fund, which makes small annual grants to support these organizations in communicating their revolutionary visions through collaborative projects with artists.

The Role

We are looking for a Program Director to:

1. deepen our engagement with our current members in the Bay Area,

2. Manage core operational systems to ensure smooth programming; and

3. hold and launch new relationships and partnerships in service of the social movements we support.

The Program Director will also work with a small team of volunteers to ensure that the monthly activities of Blue Heart run smoothly while trying out new processes and forms of operating constantly. Note that the Managing Director, Lindley Mease, will be transitioning some responsibilities and there is an opportunity to share the visioning and strategy implementation. Comfort with navigating change and moving quickly as needed is required for this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Member engagement: Design and lead projects to deepen existing members’ engagement with Blue Heart’s resources and vision (e.g., virtual and in person political education events).
  • Program growth: Design and implement campaigns to grow our membership in the Bay Area and across the United States (e.g., #reparationsmonday), particularly via a new chapter-based model on Duwamish land / Seattle.
  • Administration and operations: Recruit and manage a volunteer team executing events, curating resources for members, sending monthly newsletters, and commissioning art in service of our partner organizations’ missions.

• Prompt communication habits (email, text, and Zoom)
