Position Summary

Reporting to the ICAP Global Director, the Senior Director for Strategies and Partnerships (S&P) leads organizational efforts to develop and track strategic objectives and priorities, fundraising and development, awards management and strategic communications. S/he directly supervises a staff unit led by a team of Directors who have individual responsibility to manage ICAP’s awards management, strategic communications and development requirements. The Senior Director leads organizational engagements with internal and external partners to identify and solicit opportunities for partnerships and collaborations and works closely with other members of ICAP senior leadership to contribute to initiatives which will improve ICAP’s overall strategic positioning as a successful contributor to global health.

Responsibilities

Strategy Development, Management and Leadership (25%)

  • Assists the ICAP Global Director, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Director and other members of senior leadership to review and refine ICAP’s mission and short- and long-term strategic goals for the organization that guide its strategic partnerships and development efforts
  • Executes strategic planning processes within ICAP to address strategic priorities of the organization in order to inform development activities consistent with ICAP’s mission and vision
Funding and Development (25%)
  • Coordinates ICAP’s development efforts by managing internal systems and processes to evaluate funding trends, track funding opportunities, and to develop high-quality and competitive proposals
  • Critically researches and analyzes potential funding opportunities, disseminates key information, and provides informed and strategic recommendations to the Global Director and ICAP leadership
  • Oversees ICAP’s post-award grants management functions, serves as the organizations major link to the University Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA) office
  • Ensures that new funding proposals and continuation packages meet University and donor requirements and timelines
  • Interacts with current and future organizational partners to explore and secure effective partnerships including the negotiation and development of teaming agreements
  • Meets and facilitates relationships with prospective donors and funders, and contributes to the technical design of proposals
Partnerships, Strategic Alliances and Collaborations (20%)
  • Contributes to the formulation of organizational strategies supporting strategic internal and external partnerships by performing advance research, analyzing trends, and engaging and brokering institutional partnerships that will enhance the future positioning of ICAP
  • Liaises with ICAP Country Directors and field staff to identify opportunities for partnerships and collaborations at country level that will position ICAP to meet its stated strategy, mission and vision
  • Supports and contributes to the development of internal tools, approaches and methodologies to support ICAP’s engagement with internal and external partners
  • Advises ICAP Leadership on partnership management, program implementation issues and risk management strategies in support of eliminating barriers that will affect ICAP’s ability to fulfill its partnerships and strategic alliance strategies
Strategic Communications and Content Management (20%)
  • Oversees the development of organizational strategies for strategic communications, branding and content management for both internal and external audiences
Knowledge and Information Management (5%)
  • Leads ICAP’s internal work to establish, maintain and adapt systems supporting development, proposal management and submission, award management and project management
  • Ensures the efficient internal management of and access to proposal and award-related documentation and information

Performs other duties, as assigned (5%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Public Administration, International Development, Business Administration or a related field or equivalent in education, training and experience. 
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in public health, international development, program management, fundraising and development, or grants management
  • Demonstrated experience in grant writing and proposal development targeting a mix of donors and sponsors
  • Knowledge of USG rules and regulations pertaining to grants and contracts
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational, planning, prioritizing and time management skills
  • Strategic and innovative thinker experienced in the development of organizational strategies and systems
  • Demonstrated experience researching, gathering and analyzing data and presenting it to senior management, while making recommendations to improve business systems and processes
  • High capacity to work with independently with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Public Administration, International Development, Business Administration or a related field
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in public health, international development, program management, fundraising and development, or grants management
  • At least seven (7) years of successful supervision of diverse, high performing teams

Other Requirements

  • An estimated 3-4 international trips per year with each trip lasting 5-7 days and 5 domestic trips per year with each trip lasting 3-4 days
