About the position

The Internet Society is looking for a Senior Policy and Advocacy Advisor in Brazil to join our expert staff.  This person will advance the Internet Society’s global Internet policy and advocacy objectives with a particular focus on advocacy in Brazil and Latin America.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with Internet policy expertise, advocacy skills and experience in building advocacy coalitions in Brazil, Latin America and across the world. This person will support ISOC’s advocacy goals in within region and will contribute to our efforts to build a stronger global Internet. The applicant should have a passion for the Internet and the core principles and mission of the Internet Society along with substantial knowledge of Internet public policy issues within region.


Location: Brazil - Latin America (Remote)

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Actively contribute to the execution of ISOC’s policy goals and objectives across a wide range of projects.
  • Position the Internet Society’s policy agenda strategically and powerfully with policymakers, partners and influencers in Brazil and Latin America.
  • Develop advocacy, policy and community engagement activities on Internet policy issues based on Internet Society projects.
  • Craft Internet Society positions, engagement processes, and other policy activities.
  • Work in partnership with project leaders to mobilize partners and community members to advocate for policy changes.
  • Represent the Internet Society in a variety of settings, including with governments, regional and international policy and technical fora, civil society and the private sector in a manner that maintains the high standards of the Society.
  • Research, write and edit briefing documents, papers, reports, talking points, presentations/speeches, correspondence and other materials to advance policy goals
  • Work with a globally distributed workforce and work across time zones.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Desired Qualifications

  • We are looking for people who are passionate about defending the Internet, making it stronger and who have done great Internet policy and advocacy work in Brazil and Latin America.
  • A successful candidate will be deeply committed to the Internet Society’s vision and mission
  • We need someone who is collaborative and enthusiastic about working in a global, multicultural organization. To be successful, you will be a team player, a self-starter and a creative thinker.
  • Policy and advocacy skills: You should have 5-7 Years of experience in government relations, developing and maintaining strategic relationships with external decision-makers including government officials, staff and committees. 
  • The ideal candidate will be a recognized expert on Internet-related policy topics including encryption, intermediary liability regulation, and the open Internet. You should be able to translate complex Internet technical topics for a policy audience and articulate Internet Society positions on a range of Internet policy topics.
  • We are looking for someone with a natural affinity for partnership and coalition building.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to speak and write persuasively to a range of diverse audiences. Comfort with meeting facilitation and public speaking.
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese is required. Proficiency in Spanish is desired.
  • Travel: Once conditions permit, this person may be expected to travel extensively.
  • Commitment to the Internet Society’s mission, values and objectives.
  • Experience working with a Globally distributed workforce and ability to work across time zone.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability interact positively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.

Compensation and benefit package for this position will be competitively commensurate with the successful applicant’s qualifications.
