ABOUT THE POSITION

At present, WES is undergoing a process of innovating their operations and the way they provide their existing services in order to take their social enterprise to the next level. As the organization drives this internal transformation, in an effort to best address the needs of their customers, they are seeking a first-ever New Product Innovation Lead to join their team and expand the suite of products that WES currently offers in the broader market.

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, Senior Director of Strategy, the New Product Innovation Lead will lead the charge in diversifying WES' product offerings over the next five years. This hands-on role will oversee all new product development activities, including setting the business strategy and implementation plans, generating go-to-market strategies, developing a product roadmap and requirements, managing the overall P&L, and working collaboratively across the organization to ensure successful execution.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Create product roadmaps and prioritize new products based on a deep understanding of the most attractive customer segments, motivations, and decision-making processes
  • Define a differentiated business strategy position based on a deep understanding of the market including potential competitors, substitutes, and technology trends
  • Take an MVP (minimum viable product) strategy to validate hypotheses for business models and applications
  • Assess business and technology trade-offs, find creative solutions, and meet project and delivery objectives
  • Collaborate with the Research team to develop an in-depth understanding of customer needs through interview, surveys, and recurring customer interactions
  • Define pricing structures, licensing, and distribution mechanisms
  • Work closely with Marketing and Sales to build and execute product launch and go-to market strategy, including defining relevant content, value propositions for typical use cases, distribution on applicable channels, and defining product line sales targets as well as counter-measures to address shortfalls
  • Contribute to annual strategic planning processes and work with senior leadership to define and execute the long-range growth strategy
  • Communicate regularly with business unit leaders and other key business stakeholders to ensure that overall product roadmaps align with strategic imperatives

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Has an understanding of and commitment to WES' mission to ensure that the education, skills and talents of international students immigrants, and refugees are recognized
  • Aligns their work in service to WES' values: Opportunity, Inclusion, Equity, Enterprising, Expertise
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience launching successful products and features on multiple platforms, with a track record of delivering products while meeting or exceeding revenue, margin, and delivery commitments
  • Proven track record in having led concept to launch, especially in non-digital-native companies
  • Hands-on product leader who enjoys being down in the weeds with direct and adjacent teams
  • Proven ability to set ambitious long-term vision and strategy, translating them into roadmaps and action plans, and then driving on-time, high-quality implementation while meeting customer expectations
  • Demonstrates a comfort in and ability to work with ambiguity, adapting plans as needed and embracing positive organizational change
  • Strong communication skills; sense of urgency; strong customer empathy; adaptive to change; continuous improvement mentality; self-starter
  • Experience as a startup founder or in a startup context preferred
  • Organizational leadership experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Business preferred
