Position Description

The Center for Policing Equity (CPE) is looking for a Director of Implementation and Research Strategy to serve with our COMPSTAT for Justice (C4J) Program. C4J is a new initiative developed by CPE to co-create a reimagined public safety systems. This is done by conducting data analyses that identify sources of racial disparities, applying behavioral science research to inform tactical recommendations, and guiding law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve to work together to improve equity in policing that is deserving of community confidence.

In this role, this Director will report to the Senior Director for C4J and will lead the on-the-ground implementation of our C4J framework. The Director will translate behavioral science research and community/sociopolitical dynamics into a targeted, tailored strategy within our implementation sites. Leveraging research expertise and targeted change management strategies, the Director will drive results in reducing racially disparate public safety outcomes for communities served by C4J.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead coordinated team effort to convert data findings into recommendations and a strategic plan
  • Translate insights revealed in data analyses into an accessible languageĀ to serve as a peer leader within the C4J team
  • Ensure C4J Team protocols followĀ best practices of human subject researchĀ as appropriate
  • Drive project and change management plans within C4J site implementationĀ 
  • Provide on-the-ground insights to our evaluation team in order to iterate upon the C4J technical assistance model as well as the measurement and evaluation of these change programs
  • Uncover and develop insights through the interpretation of data analyses to steer on-the-ground implementation
  • Produce written communications and briefs documenting project progress and key changes for various stakeholders including CPEā€™s evaluation team, C4J program team members, and site stakeholders
  • Provide direct supervisory oversight for junior team members.
  • Write professional reports and presentations explaining the results of findings or outlining new processes internally
  • Assist in the development of organizational assessment and change management strategies in response to police /community challenges.Ā 

Qualifications

  • Bachelorā€™s degree in a related field, or commensurate experience
  • 3 - 4 years of work experience in racial equity, criminal justice, policing, social psychology, or a related field, or commensurate academic achievement
  • Experience leading mixed-method research projects and / or strategic planning
  • Knowledge and understanding of current trends in criminology and policing best practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; the ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience creating written products in a professional context (e.g., research writing)
  • Experience driving organizational change efforts
  • Experience supervising junior team members
  • Proficient in performance management
  • Provide regular, constructive, actionable feedback to direct reportsĀ 
  • Monitor and track employee performance via weekly check-ins, quarterly check-ins, and biannual reviews
  • Proficient in mindful delegation and capacity to assign work while clearly articulating deliverable expectations
  • Provide professional development guidance and mentorship to unlock talents and potential of direct reports
  • Demonstrate an appreciation for the management function and participate in management development in an ongoing way
  • Understands current issues in public safety reports and broader social justice topics
  • Understanding of police administrative / organizational practices and use of performance and administrative data
  • Demonstrated organizational and critical-thinking skills with the ability to work effectively on multiple projects with competing priorities
  • Ability to proactively surface and diagnose problems, and find solutions
  • Passionate about social justice issues

Other Relevant Qualifications (desired, but not required)

  • Preference given to candidateā€™s with a Masterā€™s degree in sociology, social psychology, criminology, criminal justice, or any relevant fields, or commensurate professional or life experience
  • Deep knowledge in the fields of behavioral and / or social sciences
