ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

RAINN is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization and leading authority on sexual violence. A dynamic organization comprised of experts in victim services, public education, public policy, consulting services, and technology, RAINN’s team works to provide best-in-class services for survivors, inform and educate the nation about sexual violence, and improve the public policy and criminal justice response to sexual violence.

RAINN’s victim service programs include 41 distinct hotlines, the largest of which are the National Sexual Assault Hotline and the Department of Defense Safe Helpline. The organization also operates online peer support services and a suite of technology products designed to support survivors. Overall, RAINN’s victim services programs help more than 300,000 people each year, and have helped more than 3.7 million people since 1994.  


ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Vice President of Victim Services (VPVS) will serve as a key member of RAINN’s senior management team. Reporting to RAINN’s President and Founder, the VPVS will be responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of all victim services programs and will oversee significant growth as RAINN scales its services and innovates on its offerings. The VPVS will also be visible in the media, serving as a spokesperson for RAINN and subject matter expert on issues related to sexual violence and victim services.


As the leader of a growing, diverse team of ~160 professionals, the VPVS will champion a culture of excellence and inclusion, supporting staff and volunteers in the critical and challenging work they do. 


The VPVS oversees RAINN’s four core program areas:


  1. National Sexual Assault Hotline (NSAH), RAINN’s flagship free, confidential service for survivors and their loved ones. NSAH operations run 24/7 and include telephone and online chat hotlines; online peer support programs for adults and kids; a chatbot; an app; hundreds of hotline volunteers to complement our staff; and hotlines that run for clients such as the US Peace Corps and Uber.
  2. DoD Safe Helpline, a 24/7 service RAINN operates to serve the Department of Defense community, which includes telephone and online helplines, alongside a peer chat service. 
  3. Training, which educates hundreds of staff and volunteers each year on the basics of sexual assault support and manages an extensive continuing education program to ensure that the services RAINN provide are evidence-based and world-class.
  4. Clinical Services,  a standard-setting resource supporting internal and external partners in the care for survivors; the clinical services team advises on training and content development, manages relationships with about 1,000 local service providers, ensures that services meet the needs of diverse audiences, and is creating a new coaching program to help staff and volunteers build expertise and confidence in their work. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


Strategic Growth

  • Lead development of RAINN’s programmatic growth strategy 
  • Build systems, strategies, and processes for greater scalability while maintaining RAINN’s commitment to inclusive, client-centered support
  • Conceptualize, develop, and refine new product offerings; test, refine, and implement new offerings at scale
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships and collaborate with the development team to pursue  revenue-generating opportunities

Program Management and Leadership

  • Lead a growing team of roughly 200 professionals across four teams to deliver client-centered, trauma-informed support to victims of sexual violence
  • Review and refine operations to streamline processes across the victim services team
  • Oversee the development and implementation of training programs for staff and volunteers to ensure program quality
  • Serve as a mentor, manager, and coach to the Victim Services division’s team leaders; inspire and support the division as a whole

External Leadership

  • Support the development of external partnerships that advance RAINN’s work
  • Serve as a leading national voice and subject matter expert in the ongoing dialogue about sexual violence, representing RAINN in the media and other forums
  • Serve on the advisory boards of select organizations and companies that RAINN partners with

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Personal commitment to RAINN’s mission and values
  • A minimum of ten years of program management and leadership experience, including managing large budgets, contracts, and grants
  • Demonstrated success leading large, diverse teams in complex operational environments, ideally with some experience running a 24/7 program 
  • Extensive knowledge of sexual violence, trauma, and victim care, or a related field
  • Robust strategic thinking skills, with experience scaling programs 
  • Exceptional people management skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and support managers and team members 
  • Excellent relationship management skills, with experience negotiating and leading collaborative efforts with strategic partners
  • Strong communication skills, with experience representing an organization externally  
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in a related field strongly preferred
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check (administered by RAINN)

LOCATION:  Flexible, Washington, DC strongly preferred
