About Liberation in a Generation (LibGen [1])

We define ourselves as a “national movement-support organization” because we do just that: provide support. From being thought partners for organizations as they think through and build campaigns to hosting workshops and facilitating idea-generation, we’re about bolstering efforts to win racial economic liberation and build political power. We aim to add to and reinforce local, state, and national coalitions, not assume leadership or wrestle power from the people leading them. Whether we’re advising groups on advocacy strategy or bridging movements, our grassroots relationships work is about bringing people and ideas together—and it’s about lifting each other up. Liberation in a Generation is currently incubating in PolicyLink [2].

Position Overview

Liberation in a Generation (LibGen) is looking for two passionate organizers (issues based/electoral) and experienced trainers to execute the day-to-day operations of our grassroots support work in the Partnerships Coordinator (the Coordinator) role. The Partnerships Coordinators will be responsible for executing the programmatic operations of LibGen’s collaborations with grassroots organizations. These Coordinators will support our grassroots partners by delivering LibGen PopEd (popular education) modules, leading visioning sessions and focus groups, piloting new tools and trainings, aiding coalition-building efforts, and supporting local and state campaigns that will deliver economic liberation to Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and low-income Asian people, in one generation. The Coordinators will hold key organizational relationships, implement the support work outlined in scopes of work and MOUs, track progress to goal, and make adjustments as needed to allow LibGen to be a value-add to partners. The Partnership Coordinator position will report directly to the Grassroots Relationships Manager.

The ideal candidate is an experienced organizer familiar with the tactic and strategies deployed in issue- based and electoral campaigns. They will have previous base building/community organizing, and legislative/policy advocacy experience. They are effective trainers that can develop leaders, inspire trust and passion in others, and are led by the needs of those directly impacted by systems that oppressed people of color and marginalized communities. Ideal candidates are familiar with the nuances of operating in the movement space from the joys of campaign wins to local conflict among allies, and everything in between. They are interested in using their talents to strengthen the ability of grassroots organizations to achieve bold transformative policy wins on racial and economic justice issues.
