Senior Associate, Applied Epidemiology 🔥


Reports to: Vice President, Applied Epidemiology

Location: Office in Washington, DC; Option to Work Remotely in US Only

The Senior Associate, Applied Epidemiology works to accelerate the prevention and control of typhoid through research, education and advocacy. The Senior Associate implements the activities of the Coalition against Typhoid and is a key member of the Take on Typhoid partnership. Both projects raise awareness and demand for typhoid conjugate vaccines and other enteric fever prevention tools through communications and advocacy activities. The Senior Associate is a creative communicator skilled in social media and online communications, collaborates with enteric fever experts through the Coalition against Typhoid Steering Committee, and plays a key role in organizing the biennial International Conference on Typhoid & Other Invasive Salmonelloses as well as other advocacy events.


Responsibilities:

Advocacy & Communications

  • Develop and implement an annual strategic plan for the Coalition against Typhoid through close collaboration with the Coalition’s Steering Committee
  • Coordinate engagement with the Steering Committee, including scheduling quarterly meetings, setting the agenda, preparing meeting materials and sharing meeting minutes
  • Lead collaboration with Take on Typhoid initiative partners, setting shared workplans and deliverables
  • Administer the Coalition against Typhoid website and social media presence in collaboration with Take on Typhoid partners and vendors
  • Develop and produce compelling content for electronic advocacy materials including blog posts, newsletters, infographics, email blasts, talking points, presentations, manuscripts
  • Prepare donor reports and project proposals, liaising with the Accounting and Policy & Resource Development Teams on program budgets and submission timelines

Meetings & Events

  • Coordinate the planning, organizing and agenda development of the International Conference on Typhoid & Other Invasive Salmonelloses
  • Plan advocacy events, including regional policymakers’ meetings and sessions at other global health conferences and meetings (e.g., ASTMH, World Water Week)
  • Develop and track budgets and work plans for meetings and events, in coordination with Sabin’s Manager, Meetings & Events
  • Coordinate communications between partners, speakers and participants
  • Liaise with internal Sabin staff, including the Manager, Meetings & Events, Communications Team and Policy & Resource Development Team to coordinate logistics, produce meeting materials and fundraise

Requirements:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 4+ years relevant experience
  • Demonstrated event management experience to include coordinating large-scale, international meetings and events
  • Demonstrated communications experience to include developing content for social media, newsletters, website and/or print advocacy materials, Global health communications experience highly desirable
  • Ability to manage complex tasks and to prioritize competing demands to meet deadlines
  • Effectively manage projects so problems are anticipated and solutions identified quickly
  • Show insight and awareness of the audience and tailors communications so complex messages are conveyed clearly and with impact
  • Listen carefully to feedback and comments from colleagues and adapts plans/actions accordingly
  • Work across the organization, building strong relationships with Sabin colleagues
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized
  • Strong interpersonal skills; excellent at working closely with others over geographical distance
  • Budget and project management experience desired
  • Coalition secretariat experience a plus
