Development Director 🔥


The Bee Conservancy is a nonprofit organization that works to protect bees, safeguard the environment, and secure food justice through education, research, habitat creation, and advocacy. 

We are currently looking for a dynamic Development Director to lead and expand fundraising, create a toolkit of related resources, and foster donor relationships to advance our mission. Reporting to the Managing Director, the Development Director will create, execute, and track a long-term development strategy to develop a diverse and sustainable funding base that provides the necessary support to grow the organization. 

Qualified candidates will possess at least 5 years' fundraising experience, a successful track record in fund development including individual and corporate giving; foundation, corporate, and government grants; capital campaigns; and donor-advised funds (DAFs). They should be comfortable working both independently and in a team, and be a self-directed leader who can take an idea and see it through from concept to execution.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Create a development calendar with short- and long-range goals to build a diverse portfolio of funding sources. 
  • Recommend scalable strategies for planned giving and individual donor management and recognition. 
  • Develop initiatives that leverage peer-to-peer networks, high-profile events, and other creative fundraising means.
  • Establish KPIs for monitoring and evaluating the ROI of fundraising strategies.
  • Contribute to development-related communications such as the annual report, our newsletter, and donor updates.
  • Collaborate with the Managing Director on solicitation drives for pledges of ongoing support from individuals, foundations, community, and affinity groups.
  • Develop and draft grant proposals to foundations and other grant-making organizations that secure funding by persuasively communicating our organization’s mission and programs.
  • Identify best practices and best-in-class processes, technologies, and tools to support the growth and development of the organization.
  • Provide analysis and insight into budgets, donation pools, and other accounting as it pertains to fundraising goals and spend.

Managing Director 


COMMITMENT

  • Currently, we are a remote team based in New York City. Our preference is for a candidate based in the NYC-area who can attend in-person events and meetings as needed, but will consider exceptional talent based elsewhere in the U.S.
  • 10 hours per week, with occasional fluctuation not to exceed 20 hours as needed for deadlines and events.
  • Hourly rate commensurate with experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of nonprofit fundraising/development experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self motivated, works well under pressure and able to handle several projects at once
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Slack, Trello (or other workflow tool)
  • Proficiency in Foundation Center and MailChimp a plus
  • Background in accounting a plus
  • Background in sustainability and the environment a plus
