Front End Developer 🔥
About Canary & Grant Circle
Canary [1] is a mission-driven enterprise, contributing to the evolution of the 21st century social safety net to ensure that, in times of financial need, individuals can access emergency funds with dignity. Grant Circle [2] is our emergency relief fund platform that facilitates fundraising, processing grant requests, disbursing cash grants to individuals experiencing financial hardship, and impact measurement. The Grant Circle platform was initially built to support emergency relief funds in the workplace, though opportunities to leverage the capabilities to support other use cases abound, including training programs and social services organizations.
The role
At Canary we’re working on bringing engineering in house to support the rapid growth of the Grant Circle platform. Our team is currently back end heavy and we’re looking to up level our front end expertise. In this role you’ll have the opportunity to move fast, evolve the product, and collaborate closely with the rest of our mission-driven team. Canary has set ambitious growth targets over the next year and you will be instrumental in helping to achieve those goals. As a software developer at Canary you will help to implement features, fix bugs, help design and architect our codebase, and deliver high quality code for all aspects of our software.
Tech stack we currently use:
- JavaScript (Vue)Â
- Python (Django)
- AWS (e.g. Elastic Beanstalk and RDS database)
We take great pride in our software. At Canary, the FE focused software developer role includes a wide variety of work and exposure, including:
- Greenfield feature development for a Vue front end with a Django backend
- Using design and accessibility best practices to polish and enhance our Vue application
- QA’ing and owning all the software development process from ideation and architecture planning to deployment
- Fixing bugs based on priority
- Participating in security reviews and our internal security process
- Actively pairing and communicating with the development team on a regular basis
- Sharing siloed knowledge with the rest of the team
- Writing feature documentation
- Helping us define better engineering practices or pick up places where we are falling short
Our ideal candidate
You are driven to own your own code and follow the process we develop and hone as a team. You are willing and able to take a general idea and work with product and design to scope out, build, test, and deploy entire feature sets end to end. Additional attributes we look for in candidates are:
- Curious and driven to generate results
- Self motivated
- Excited to work at a small, early-stage, growing, mission-driven fintech
- Strong communication skills
- Professional experience with Vue
- Willing and excited to work on our remote first team, with the understanding that the team will convene in person periodically post-COVID
- At least 4 years of software development experience
- Experience with AWSÂ
This is a remote opportunity, though the current product and engineering team are located in Seattle. So, if you are in the area and vaccinated, there will be opportunities to engage in person. The entire Canary team will convene periodically, in person, when it is safe again to do so.
