Location: Washington, DC; Option to Work Remotely

The Global Community Engagement (Boost) Network empowers immunization managers across the globe to get answers, grow in their role and raise their collective voices by enabling them to connect, elevate, navigate and learn. The Vaccine Acceptance and Demand (VAD) initiative aims to increase acceptance of vaccines and immunization among communities in low- and middle-income countries through programs that research the drivers of vaccine acceptance and by strengthening the capacity of information gatekeepers to communicate about vaccines and immunization.

The Director, Global Communities of Practice is a new cross-functional role at Sabin and will initially lead on three core projects, building upon expertise within the Boost Community and the Vaccine Acceptance and Demand teams: establishing and facilitating a community of practice focused on behavioral insights to address vaccine demand, lead Sabin’s work on the “Insights Dialogue" to share evidence and best practices in the use of social media to increase vaccine acceptance, and translate knowledge about vaccine acceptance to inform and support immunization professionals.

The Director will be responsible for managing programming, including program design, partnership development and management, collaboration with internal colleagues, and budget management. The individual in this role will report to the VP, Global Community Engagement and will have dotted line reporting to the VP, Vaccine Acceptance and Demand.


Responsibilities:

Program leadership and implementation

  • Contribute to design and startup of new initiatives, with work to include developing and leading implementation of overall project plan, leading partner relationship management, driving outreach to new partners and the immunization community, and collaborating with Boost and other Sabin team members
  • Establish and regularly convene a global community of practice (CoP) of immunization experts to explore the integration of existing behavioral science interventions and tools into immunization programming to improve demand for vaccines. Work will include collaborating with COP members to identify current interventions, reviewing and evaluating the evidence about the potential integration of these interventions into immunization programs, identifying additional needs and or gaps, and with team members, partners, and consultants to design and develop solutions to address these needs
  • Manage subaward partner to foster linkages between the global CoP and four in-country CoPs (to be convened by partner organization); facilitate cross-country learning among the four project countries
  • Work closely with external partners and team members to design and implement a series of virtual convenings that examine the potential for social media interventions to improve vaccine acceptance to include event development, identifying and coaching speakers, and curating the development of outputs to document lessons and practices following each event

Collaboration and partnership management

  • Lead partner relationships with external collaborators; identify and build new relationships to expand program impact and sustainability
  • Lead internal collaboration between Global Community Engagement and Vaccine Acceptance and Demand teams
  • Work closely with VP, Global Community Engagement; VP, Resource Development & Policy; and VP, Vaccine Acceptance and Demand to manage donor relationships; contribute to regular reporting, identify opportunities for program growth, and to business development as needed

Project management

  • Work with Sabin operations teams and Sr. Project Manager, Vaccine Acceptance and Demand to manage budgets and deliverables; oversee contracts, agreements, and awards; and develop and manage project workplans
  • Oversee and/or coordinate the collection, compilation and analysis of program activity data; develop, write and present comprehensive statistical and narrative program reports
  • Supervise and mentor direct reports and support skills and professional development as needed
  • Regularly assess team members workloads, adjust resources and source and manage vendors/consultants as needed
  • Collaborate with the Manager of Global Learning and Engagement to refine and implement project monitoring & evaluation metrics and tools

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Master’s degree in Public Health or other health related field preferred
  • 12+ years relevant experience; international experience highly desirable
  • Familiarity with immunization landscape and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated skill in developing and managing collaborations with diverse partners
  • Experience in building and leading communities of practice, coalitions and/or networks
  • Proven ability to work with NGOs, governments, non-profits and industry partners
  • Seasoned project management experience, including experience developing and managing workplans and budgets
  • Excellent communication and diplomacy skills (active listening, writing, speaking); listens carefully to feedback from staff and adapts plans/actions accordingly
  • Strong capacity to manage others and work with diverse personalities, including supervising the work of colleagues outside of direct supervision
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to manage complex tasks, highly organized, flexible, dependable and able to prioritize competing demands to meet deadlines
  • Effectively manage projects so problems are anticipated and solutions identified quickly
  • Assertive, innovative, superior service orientation
  • Strong interpersonal skills; effective at working with others over geographical distance
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, in line with COVID-19 protocols and with notice
