Position Overview

Tipping Point has an award-winning reputation for producing the most captivating events in San Francisco. With a unique combination of sophisticated storytelling, powerful fundraising moments, and headline entertainment, these events attract some of the most prominent business leaders, tech innovators, and major philanthropists throughout the Bay Area. 

We are seeking a highly creative and organized event producer who will be part of a team that is passionate about fighting poverty in the Bay Area. As the Events Manager, you will play a critical role in all areas of Tipping Point’s event strategy and is charged with producing events – from concept through execution – varying in size, goals, audience, location and budget. Events range from private in-home donor cultivation and educational events, to concerts and signature fundraisers. You will ensure that each event meets Tipping Point's high standard of excellence. This position reports to the Director of Events. 

What will you do?

Events

  • Produce a range of small and large scale events, including creative vision for event, vendor selection and management, budget oversight, timeline development, logistics, communications, and expectation-setting to create a seamless experience for attendees.
  • Build, cultivate and maintain relationships with key vendors, partners, donors and grantees.
  • Develop meeting topics, agendas, project briefs and presentation materials for key planning meetings.
  • Support additional events that are produced by other team members. 
  • Plan and make informed decisions about venue, food and beverage, and creative touches in order to elevate “good” events to “great” events, and by collaborating with different Tipping Point teams to deliver exceptional results.
  • Perform extensive research and planning with contingency plans.

Creative

  • Perform due diligence on potential event options.
  • Research event trends, new technology, and venues. 
  • Look for novel and unique solutions, and opportunities. 
  • Identify and plan unexpected “wow” moments for our guests.

Management & Administrative

  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
  • Facilitate collaboration among multiple departments and teams to achieve event timelines, deliverables, and goals. 
  • Support the Director of Events in building out annual goals and team work plans.

All other duties as assigned.

This role reports to the Director of Events and works collaboratively across several departments.

What qualifications are we looking for?

Additionally, the Events Manager must have:

  • Well-developed background successfully working in events
  • Strong knowledge of key components of an event including catering, décor, audio/video, staging, and entertainment
  • Excellent project management skills, the ability to determine goals and resources necessary for a project, and the ability to remain within a set budget to accomplish a vision. Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage overlapping projects while remaining focused on quality in fast-paced and goal-oriented environment.
  • Ability to “think on your feet”, provide direction and assistance, anticipating problems and developing solutions. 
  • Proven ability to participate in the process of idea generation and breaking out of established patterns in order to derive creative solutions and products. 
  • Commitment to Tipping Point’s mission and ability to operate with the highest degree of integrity in representing the organization.

Nice to have*:

  • Knowledge of the Bay Area philanthropic community, nonprofits, and events scene 
  • Basic Adobe Creative Suite + CAD skills 

*“Nice to have” really means just that; it’s entirely possible that you don’t have any of these and are still a great fit. It’s not expected that any single candidate would have expertise across all of these areas — we’re looking for candidates that are particularly strong in a few areas, and have some interest and capabilities in others.

Salary + classification

Tipping Point is committed to paying competitive wages. In an effort to increase equity, because we know that salary negotiations tend to have an unfair bias, we do not participate in a salary negotiation process for any candidate. We will make our best offer, and it will be the same regardless of the candidate. The annual starting salary for the Events Manager role is $95,000. This position meets the exemption requirements as defined by state and federal law. Exempt employees are paid on a salaried basis, and their salary is intended to constitute their entire regular compensation, regardless of the number of hours they work; therefore, exempt employees are not eligible for overtime pay.

Hybrid Work Environment

Tipping Point is committed to the safety of our staff and to facilitating connection and community with one another. While we were remote for a year, we are moving slowly into a hybrid work environment: each team has identified 1-2 in-person days to be present in the office. Additionally, all staff are required to be in office two Tuesdays a month for staff All-Hands and team activities. All other days staff may choose to work in the office or remotely. Please note that in a constantly changing environment, Tipping Point may adjust this arrangement as it sees the need to.
