Stable Housing Community Navigator 🔥
Illinois Legal Aid Online (ILAO) seeks a Stable Housing Community Navigator to serve as a community educator and connector for people in need of eviction prevention resources and services in communities impacted by mass incarceration in Sangamon and Macon Counties. This will be done by providing educational presentations, outreach, referrals to resources and legal services, and accompaniment through the legal process, if necessary.
This is a grant-funded, part-time, contract position. All deliverables must be completed by 4/30/2022 (deliverables may also be completed any time before this date if desired).
PROJECT DELIVERABLES
- Provide at least 15 community educational presentations about eviction prevention
- Reach at least 150 people through presentations and outreach
- Refer at least 10 people to legal support for eviction
- Refer at least 10 renters to housing assistance programs and benefits
- Provide additional support to at least 10 renters in need (this includes accompaniments, assistance following up on referrals, appointment scheduling, document preparation, assistance at appointments, and follow-up check-in meetings)
- Develop partnerships with at least 10 community organizations
- Distribute educational materials (such as flyers) related to stopping or fighting eviction to 20 businesses and community organizations
- Provide at least 10 people with housing-related, self-help tools by helping them navigate the resources on IllinoisLegalAid.org
- Keep accurate records and documentation of deliverables, including the number of presentations completed, organizations engaged, and people who benefited from these Navigator activities
QUALIFICATIONS
The Community Navigator must be a member of a target community, with preference given to those who have lived experience with incarceration. The Community Navigator must have interest and experience in helping their neighbors and other community members in getting the services they need. Experience in helping people develop personal plans to overcome challenges - especially those related to eviction and stable housing - based on their interests, strengths, and expertise is especially helpful. The Community Navigator will work as part of a team and should be comfortable giving presentations and leading training sessions for groups of people.
TRAINING PROVIDED
The Community Navigator will be trained to:
- Lead “Know Your Rights” workshops for renters’ rights;
- Conduct needs assessments to make referrals; and,
- Understand the difference between legal information and legal advice to avoid the unauthorized practice of law.
PAYMENT
The Community Navigator will earn $6,100 for meeting the above deliverables. Payments will be made as follows: 25% paid ($1,525) upon signing the contract; 50% upon submitting invoices detailing progress in meeting the above deliverables; and the remaining 25% upon completion of the project. The Community Navigator may also be reimbursed for local travel expenses upon submission of required documentation.
