JOB SUMMARY FOR TECHNICAL WRITER:
- Technical Writers apply technical writing methodology to draft and clarify information from forms, policies, procedures, workflows and job aids, to facilitate the review and approval process for documents. Must be able to meet deadlines, work on multiple documents at the same time, and apply corporate quality processes
- General job duties may include the development of procedures, guidelines, job aids, training materials, and project documentation. Work directly with subject matter experts, end users, and other staff members to understand the direction of the documentation.
RESPONSIBILITIES FOR TECHNICAL WRITER:
- Assess current policies, procedures, job aids, templates and supporting documents for consistency, accuracy, relevant, up to date information (i.e. systems, processes, tools)
- Provide gap analysis on current state of policies, procedures, job aids and templates and supporting documents to meet world class performance and ensure compliance with audits
- Provide recommended naming conventions and numbering schema for policies, procedures, job aids, templates and supporting documents; Test naming conventions for search and results
- Provide action plan for gap analysis with required items, estimated effort, duration and dependencies
- Meet with stakeholders to review work plans, action items, and obtain necessary information and data
- Propose where a job aid or templates are needed
- Develop and/or edit the required documentation. Update job aids, templates, guides or other supporting documents to be user friendly, concise, relevant, accurate, applicable and provide visual references
- Inactive outdated or duplicate job aids, templates and supporting documents
- Conduct user feasibility and testing reviews and update based upon feedback
- Finalize policies, procedures, job aids, templates and supporting documents
- Quality check use of updated policies, procedures, job aids, templates and supporting documents as part of PDCA
- Provide consulting support for users of policies, procedures, job aids, templates and supporting documents
- Maintain a detailed glossary/library of technical terms and documents
- May provide onboarding support for new employees and contractors
- Provide daily and weekly updates of tasks, status and risks
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE FOR TECHNICAL WRITER:
- Bachelor's Degree(3-5 Years)Technical Communication, Professional Writing, or Technical Writing or Associates degree with equivalent experience.
- Communication(3-5 Years)Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Excellent technical research and organizational skills.
- Detail Oriented(3-5 Years)Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment - Analytical and conceptual thinking skills - Ability to multi-task and be a self-starter.
- MS Suite(3-5 Years)Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) - Editorial skills.
- Technical Writer(3-5 Years)Develop and/or edit the required documentation. Update job aids, templates, guides or other supporting documents to be user friendly, concise, relevant, accurate, applicable and provide visual references.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS FOR TECHNICAL WRITER:
- Experience working in a Lean environment.
- Experience writing job aids or work instructions using step by step instructions, visuals and screen shots.
- Experience in Microsoft 365.
- Experience in Snag It/Snip IT.
- Ability to connect using MS Teams.
