About SEA: Sea Education Association (SEA) is a non-profit educational institution and an internationally recognized leader in undergraduate ocean education. Since 1971, SEA has educated undergraduate, high school and gap year students about the world’s oceans through its Boston University accredited study abroad program, SEA Semester® and other programs. SEA is located on Cape Cod in the oceanographic research community of Woods Hole (Falmouth) and owns and operates two sailing research vessels: the SSV Corwith Cramer in the Atlantic Ocean and the SSV Robert C. Seamans in the Pacific.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the President's direction, the Director of Development works to achieve the development objectives of SEA. The Director's primary responsibility is the strategic design, execution, and administration of comprehensive fundraising for SEA. A key component of this position is the effective management of SEA's annual giving program, the cultivation and solicitation of leadership Annual Fund gifts, and oversight of a robust alumni relations program. The Director provides tactical direction and long- and short-term planning for all areas of growth while also managing special fundraising campaign goals and the overall development of SEA's donor relations. The Director is responsible for strategically positioning SEA for success in dollars raised, percentage participation, consistency of giving, and timely donor stewardship and acknowledgment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

1)                 Reporting to the President, the DOD works to achieve the fundraising objectives of SEA.

2)                 Manages, supervises, and evaluates the Development Dept, including Assistant/Associate Director of Development, Development Coordinator, and Director of Stewardship.

3)                 Manages a portfolio of qualified leadership and major donors.

4)                 Develops, implements, and oversees a comprehensive plan for meeting SEA's annual giving, planned giving, and capital fundraising goals.

5)                 Supervises the Assistant/Associate Director of Development to ensure he or she keeps the alumni and parents informed of activity at SEA and alumni have opportunities to participate in SEA events.

6)                 With Development team, manages Board and Development Committee relations and activities.

7)                 Reviews and approves communications with all funding sources.

8)                 Writes foundation proposals to support Other Giving and the capital campaign.

9)                 Manages the publication of an annual newsletter, Following SEA, the annual report to donors, and other development publications.

10)             Prepares and assures adherence to the Development budget.

11)             Serves as the development representative with the Senior Management Group (SMG).

12)              Prepares and assures adherence to the Development budget.

13)             Organizes and participates in Trustee meetings, including annual and semi-annual meetings of the Trustees and Overseers.

14)             Works collaboratively with fellow SEA team members, volunteers, trustees, and board members.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of five to seven years of experience in the broad field of development with proven success in management, annual fundraising efforts, donor stewardship, events, major gifts, and volunteer management.
  • Experience in capital campaign planning and execution is preferred.
  • Previous experience in an educational setting or nonprofit organization is necessary.
  • Management and leadership experience, sincerity, discretion, and strong communication and interpersonal skills essential.
  • Bachelor's degree required.

BENEFITS & COMPENSATION

 The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $95,000, commensurate with experience. SEA offers a full benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision coverage; life insurance; retirement plans; Aflac; flexible spending accounts; and generous vacation/sick/personal time and holidays.
