T’ruah is seeking a full-time Director of Campaigns to engage and mobilize the 2,000 rabbis and cantors in our network through our national campaigns. This person will develop the next steps in T'ruah’s campaign strategies to achieve impact on worker justice, immigration, and mass incarceration & policing, and will contribute to the direction of all of T’ruah’s national campaigns. 

The ideal candidate is a creative and strategic thinker and strong project manager with a record of building relationships and alliances with others to deliver tangible change. 

This is an exciting time to join T’ruah at an incredible moment of growth. We plan to expand our staff and our capacity over the next few months. We are at the beginning of an ambitious five-year plan to grow our organization and budget substantially, and we recently hired a Director of Strategy who will guide a process of organizational reflection and alignment to make sure we are maximizing our impact. What You’ll Do 

The Director of Campaigns, who reports to the Director of Strategy, is responsible for the following:

  • Develop a strategy for and run Truah’s national campaigns on mass incarceration & policing, worker justice, and immigration    
  • Contribute to the development of the strategy and direction of T’ruah’s national campaigns pertaining to Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories 
  • Establish and facilitate leadership working groups of T’ruah members and volunteers to guide our work on each campaign
  • Represent T’ruah on national coalitions, and forge and maintain partnerships with allied organizations
  • Serve as T’ruah’s policy expert on questions related to campaign issue areas

If you were here right now, you would be:

  • Working with national partners and our network of rabbis and cantors to determine the next step for our immigration work
  • Making a recommendation on whether to join an organizational sign-on letter by one of our partner organizations
  • Working with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers to lay the groundwork for T’ruah’s participation in their fall farmworker education/action tours against Wendy’s in NYC and San Francisco.
  • Assessing, along with our coalition partners, if and how T'ruah should be responding to Vice President Harris’s border trip.

In addition to your supervisor, you will collaborate regularly with:

  • Director of Organizing and local organizers
  • Director of Leadership and Learning
  • Director of Communications

Who You Are & Keys to Success

To be successful in this job, you will be or have:

  • At least 3-5 years of demonstrated experience working on issue advocacy campaigns and/or in the field of community organizing or advocacy
  • Experience managing volunteers: You have worked with volunteer committees and understand how to manage and collaborate with volunteers.
  • Ability to build and establish strong working relationships with people: You develop and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders and can bring in allies and coalition partners from marginalized communities. You know how to build alliances and find points of collaboration even when there are competing interests.
  • Culturally sensitive: You are comfortable working closely with Jewish clergy.
  • Excellent presentation skills; ability to represent Truah in coalition meetings and public gatherings: You speak clearly on behalf of the organization and advocate for/ with community members. You communicate well with others, including sharing context and asking questions to understand others’ perspectives. You’re adept at facilitating public conversations. 
  • Racial equity and inclusion values and skills: You understand the historical context for racial inequity and its present-day implications. You recognize ways that race and other identities intersect in social justice work, especially with communities of rabbis and cantors. You are comfortable talking about identities such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, class, ability, or gender in plain, specific terms. You identify decisions, policies, or practices that have disparate impacts based on identity, and you’re driven to make changes in systems and practices to operationalize equity. 
  • Able to manage a high volume of work with efficiency: You have, or can create, a system for keeping tasks from slipping through the cracks. You’re able to juggle competing demands and prioritize without sacrificing quality. You plan backwards to make deadlines, and ask for help when needed.
  • Able to synthesize information quickly: If you are not already an issue expert, you have deep curiosity about our issue areas. You can digest a large volume of articles and information and stay on top of current events, legislation, and developments as they impact our work.
  • Strong project management skills: You’re able to oversee and structure complex projects and ensure that a quality end product is delivered on or ahead of schedule.

  • Spanish language skill

Status

This position is full-time. 

Salary

The starting annual salary for this role is $70,000 - $80,000 depending on experience. 

Location

The job location depends on where you reside: If you live anywhere other than the New York Metropolitan Area, the position is remote. Those living in the New York Metro Area will have our New York City office at their disposal; we are currently assessing an office reopening plan, which will likely require New York Metro Area employees to be present in the office at least a few days a week. 

Travel

Currently due to COVID no travel is required, but in the future we’d expect: ability to travel to occasional in-person meetings in various US locations.
