Communications Director


Haven is the Gallatin Valley's non-profit serving survivors of domestic violence. Founded in 1979, Haven provides a 24-hour support line, emergency shelter, legal advocacy, counseling and support groups for survivors of intimate partner violence.

The Communications Director will hold a new position at Haven, helping our organization increase its capacity and raise awareness in our community of intimate partner violence and the support Haven provides.

Responsibilities:

Communications Strategy (30%)

·       Create, execute and oversee an annual communications plan with current analysis, key audiences, goals and objectives and timeline

·       Collaborate on a regular basis with all departments within the organization to acquire/develop storytelling assets and meet partner needs 

·       Write talking points for Haven’s Board and staff in conjunction with press releases, and on a quarterly basis

·       Develop a plan to increase Haven’s social media following by at least 50% average across platforms within one year

Content Creation (40%)

·       Create and generate online and social media content that engages audiences and leads to measurable actions

·       Manage the development of all print and online content, including targeted newsletters, annual report and brochures for Haven

·       Coordinate photography for events and activities for use in communications 

·       Solicit and manage photography permissions and media releases as needed 

Media Relations (30%)

·       Increase the community’s awareness of Haven’s services by writing and issuing regular press releases as part of the overall communications plan

·       Solicit and respond to press requests in order to maximize relevant visibility of Haven

·       Manage ongoing press relationships and cultivate new press relationships 

·       Identify opportunities for press to tell key Haven stories 

·       Organize press visits: coordinate with internal staff and external parties and arrange all logistics for such visits 

·       Serve as Speaking Request Liaison, responding to requests for speakers and proactively seeking out appropriate venues at which Haven speakers may be featured 

·       Maintain press kit materials 

·       Manage brand to ensure accuracy in all public representations of our work 

·       Monitor and respond to mentions of Haven in the news 

·       Work closely with appropriate staff in marketing and publicity for fundraising events 

·       Organize and maintain electronic press links folder

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or a related filed

·       7+ years of experience in communications or closely related field

·       Growth mindset

·       Strong attention to detail and proofreading skills

·       Demonstrated success in developing and implementing marketing and communications plans

·       Demonstrated success in managing social media platforms

·       Familiarity with MailChimp or similar program

·       Dedication to supporting survivors of intimate partner violence

Preferred Qualifications

·       Master’s Degree

·       Experience working at a nonprofit

·       Comfortable working in basic design software

Work Schedule, Compensation and Benefits

Haven offers a flexible work schedule. This is a full-time, 40 hour/week position and includes full benefits. Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance; a monthly wellness reimbursement; generous PTO; paid parental leave; a 3% retirement match after first year of employment; and the opportunity to work in an environment that improves our community’s health and wellbeing.

Haven is currently working with RoadMap Consulting to create a more transparent and equitable compensation philosophy and metrics for Haven.
