About Us:  

Okoa Refuge is a non-profit, 501(c)3 formed in 2008 that exists to glorify Christ in Africa by partnering with the local church to stabilize the family unit and transform entire communities. In its more than 10 years of ministry, Okoa has grown to include care for vulnerable children and the disabled, rescuing women and children who are victims of the sex trade and domestic violence, spreading the gospel in multiple African nations through local indigenous missionaries, pastor schools, church plantings and discipleship programs.


Job Summary:

The Okoa Refuge US Associate Director of Development & Operations primarily leads US operations in vision, fundraising, networking, and financial accountability. Reporting to the CEO/President and serving as the "face" of Okoa, the US Associate Director will be responsible for developing the US strategy of strengthening and optimizing the support backbone of the ministry and contributing to the development of the organization's financial goals through donor engagement and building new partnerships. By doing this, the US Associate Director is an integral part in helping Okoa fulfill its mission to bring hope and healing to people around the world.


Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising and Donor Relations - Develops/implements strategies and plans to support operational/project financial needs through fundraising and donor relations while retaining current partners and volunteers.
  • Marketing/Networking/Communication - Networks to develop new church, business and organizational partners while raising awareness/educating the community on the Okoa mission. Develops systems and procedures to maximize impact.
  • Strategic and Operational Planning - Formulates/executes long and short-term strategies/plans aligned to the Okoa vision as required for successful results of the US operations and programs. Ensures that services and funding relationships are robust enough to meet or exceed strategic goals and objectives.
  • Budget Management, Financial Analysis and Reporting - Prepares accurate and timely analyses that capture and communicate fundraising results, variances, and performance trends keeping the President and Board of Directors well informed.  Assists in developing and meeting the annual US operational budget.
  • Staff Management - Retains and recruits a diverse, highly qualified US staff and volunteer team by providing career coaching, growth, and personal development for workers.
  • Legal and Risk Management - Maintains and ensures compliance of US Okoa policies and procedures. Responsible for all US legal and risk management; ensures compliance with State and Federal requirements for our 501(c)3.

Qualifications:

  • First and foremost, a strong and active relationship with Jesus.
  • Strong and professional oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with excellent time management skills to balance multiple competing priorities.
  • Experience in the design and execution of marketing, communications and public relations activities.
  • Experience working with nonprofits, preferred.
  • Experience recruiting and motivating paid and volunteer staff around a shared mission.
  • Strong leadership and social skills; enthusiastic and flexible
  • Ability to work some nights/weekends to support events, donor stewardship, outreach, and volunteer recruitment.
  • Ability to travel for networking opportunities within the US and to Uganda to build relationships and knowledge of our Ugandan staff and programs.

Technical experience:

  • A minimum of 1-3 years experience with proven results in fundraising including donor introductions, managing donor relationships, and raising funds to meet a budget goal.
  • 1+ years successfully managing and reporting out on a complex multi-line budget, including P&L, Balance Sheet, Payroll, etc.
  • Experience in presenting to a variety of groups/individuals to inform and educate about an organization.
  • Ability and experience in designing promotional and informational materials.
  • Experience in developing plans with deliverables to accomplish strategic goals
