Summary

The primary objective of the chief development officer is to oversee Gamma Phi Beta’s charitable efforts with the goal of meeting the Gamma Phi Beta Foundation’s fundraising and funding goals. The chief development officer is responsible for directing all aspects of the donor lifecycle for Gamma Phi Beta Foundation donors (identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship), with an emphasis on major, planned and campaign giving, as well as meeting annual, unrestricted fundraising goals to ensure operations and favorable cost ratios. The chief development officer collaborates with the Foundation Board of Trustees, Executive Team and Development Team to implement a long-term fundraising strategy for Gamma Phi Beta.


Responsibilities

The chief development officer will provide leadership to the Development Team and is responsible for the execution of fundraising goals through cultivation and solicitation. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Ensure a culture of charitable giving across the enterprise and position Gamma Phi Beta for long-term success by engaging and inspiring members, increasing fundraising, strengthening grant funding to the Sorority and growing assets under management.
  • Define and direct development strategy.
  • Create annual development plan and execute in partnership with the executive director, Foundation staff and Foundation Board of Trustees.
  • Prepare and manage to annual operating plan in partnership with the Foundation Finance Committee and with support from the Executive Team.
  • Lead a data-driven approach to development through strong technological acumen and proven ability to use metrics to drive development decisions and achieve strategic objectives.
  • Empower the Development Team to be fundraisers and brand ambassadors via a portfolio fundraising approach. Actively support direct reports and key collaborators; seek and act upon opportunities to mentor, develop and grow team members; and provide in-the-moment coaching and real-time feedback with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Encourage the Foundation Trustees to be fundraisers and brand ambassadors. Support Trustees as they consistently refresh portfolios and steward their relationships through activities including research, donor visits and prioritization. Facilitate monthly board calls and board meetings, scheduled annually in concert with the board chair and executive director; responsible for preparation of agendas and recording of minutes.
  • Maintain a donor portfolio by personally participating in cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required. Master’s degree preferred. At least 10 years of professional fundraising experience, preferably major and principle gift fundraising and campaign management. Possesses strong knowledge of fundraising and communications strategy; donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship; portfolio management; 501(c)3 operations and compliance. Ability to manage a team of development professionals, supported by a shared services team and vendor partners. Ability to actively facilitate and steward a fundraising-focused volunteer board.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of: internet, spreadsheet (Excel), word processing (Word), electronic mail (Outlook), presentation (PowerPoint) and iMIS database.

Location

This position is based at Gamma Phi Beta Sorority Headquarters in Centennial, Colorado. Remote employment will be considered.
