Scope of Work
This position will provide client project management and serve as the project lead or co-lead/second for 10–20 clients per year, with duties including but not limited to:
- Designing, coordinating and implementing client-focused planning processes (e.g., strategic planning, action planning, scenario planning) and facilitated meetings (e.g., board engagement sessions, board retreats, topical conversations, community summits)
- Compiling and conducting research/discovery to support planning processes
- Crafting engaging meeting agendas with various adult-learning and participation styles incorporated, and creating presentation materials (e.g., handouts, flip charts, online media) to support facilitation activities leading toward a final outcome (e.g., developing vision and mission statements, identifying core values, creating a business model, developing strategic goals and action strategies)
- Facilitating fun, welcoming and purposeful meetings where stakeholders feel encouraged and safe to share their opinions; where creative and concrete ideas are sourced, discussed and developed; where at conclusion, participants feel heard and see clear value and/or results from meeting efforts
- Synthesizing information gathered through planning processes and facilitated conversations, in partnership with the evaluation and engagement team, to create specific, actionable and relevant plans and recommendations
- Producing high-quality and comprehensive final deliverables (e.g., strategic plans, summary reports) and presentations to board members, community members or other stakeholders
- Infusing diversity, equity and inclusion best practices and lenses throughout each client engagement, providing education and encouragement for their implementation both with our clients and with our team
- Leading business development efforts for the planning and facilitation work (including helping develop new products and offerings; developing budgets and scopes for projects; assisting with writing narratives for proposals and RFP responses; strengthening relationships with ongoing/long-term clients; representing JVA at relevant conferences, fundraisers and other events)
- Mentoring other staff and interns in areas of your expertise

Thus, this position will also engage in other duties, as assigned, including but not limited to:
- Contributing content for federal, state and foundation grants (i.e., writing specific sections)
- Providing coaching and group training to a diverse group of planning clients; leading customized trainings on topics such as board development, strategy development; and serving in supporting facilitation roles for JVA trainings, as appropriate
- Conducting research on best practices and trends related to clients’ work; keeping abreast of trends in the field and making sure they are incorporated in our work

- Remarkable writing skills that include experience writing reports
- Good understanding of the social change sector landscape, including current trends

Specific Experience and Skills Desired
- Experience facilitating planning sessions and community processes for nonprofits, foundations and government agencies, with demonstrated ability to achieve client outcomes and customer satisfaction
- Experience in designing, implementing, analyzing and reporting research to support planning processes
- Demonstrated project management skills
- Ability to manage a team and bring in new business
- A history of developing and promoting principles and practices related to diversity, equity and inclusion, including experience welcoming, respecting and elevating diverse voices and perspectives
- High comfort with and ability to use or learn about technology services, including proficiency with online video platforms (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet) and online sharing and collaboration systems (e.g., Google Drive, Asana)
- Fundraising, grantwriting and/or evaluation experience a plus!
Status: This is a full-time position (part-time considered) that will include occasional evening and weekend hours, with the ability to flex hours when evening and weekend work is required to meet client deadlines.
IMPORTANT! Location: This is an additional information to what is in the location section later in this listing. We are looking for applicants in Colorado who can easily travel to metropolitan Denver for in-person planning meetings, facilitations, and other sessions. Other than that, the other parts of the job can be done remotely. Given the nature of the work, access to a personal vehicle is required, as are a valid driver’s license and current auto insurance.
