Grant Writer


Seeds of Peace seeks a Grant Writer to manage a portfolio of new and existing foundation and government funders that support general operations and mission aligned / priority restricted projects. As a grant writer, you will be responsible for leading and managing the process of developing letters of inquiry and writing narrative grant proposals and reports to a range of current and prospective private foundations and government agencies. 

In this role, you will work closely with program staff to develop high quality program narratives that meet the needs of our community; partner with finance to develop budgets, budget narratives, and financial reports; collaborate with development data operations to track and archive grant information; and coordinate with impact and evaluation staff for reporting purposes. Finally, you will manage grants and contracts from pre-proposal through award, reporting, and closeout.

Inside the organization, the grant writer will collaborate with program staff, other members of our development and communications team, senior leadership team members, impact and evaluation, and finance staff. Externally, this individual will be expected to collaborate with foundation, corporate, and government officers.

This remote position will be based ideally in either NYC, DC, Seattle, or Boston. It is an independent consulting role for which we currently estimate the workload to be 20 hours per week, with flexibility to increase as the portfolio grows. We are currently seeking to contract this position through the end of 2021 with the potential to extend the contract upon mutual agreement. 


Scope of Work

•       Lead the preparation of concept notes, letters of inquiry, and grant proposals and narrative reports for a variety of funders – tailoring your writing to suit major institutional foundations, government agencies, and small family foundations.

•       Analyze Request for Proposals (RFP), prepare written RFP summaries for program staff, call and lead meetings with program staff to discuss RFPs that are up for consideration.

•       Perform prospect research to support existing and new programs and create or update funder profiles and briefing materials, as necessary.

•       Identify new prospective institutional donors and develop strategies to approach those donors.

•       Cultivate relationships with funders.

•       Plan and manage site visits for prospective and existing funders – prepare senior team to meet with institutional program officers.

•       Use a variety of sources to describe Seeds of Peace programs using culturally competent language that reflects the communities we serve.

•       Project manage proposals, ensuring that project stakeholders have reviewed and provided feedback on proposals in a timely manner, and obtaining final approval.

•       Document all solicitations and gifts using appropriate department procedures.


Qualifications

•       4+ years’ experience in grant writing for large institutional foundations and government agencies

•       Strong communicator with superior writing and editing skills

•       Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills

•       Computer literacy, including with Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office programs, as well as Teams and Zoom.

•       Ability to make judgment calls in a variety of situations.

•       Ability to work collaboratively with staff that have different backgrounds, experiences, and competencies.

•       Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organized with the ability to prioritize deadlines.

•       BA/BS degree or equivalent preferred
