Senior Security Automation Engineer 🔥

GitHub's Application Security team supports our engineering teams by performing high-level design review and in-depth code review. We're looking for an experienced engineer to automate the identification and remediation of vulnerabilities throughout all stages of the software development lifecycle.

As a Senior Security Automation Engineer you will be responsible for understanding the root cause of vulnerabilities identified through our code review process or Bug Bounty program then developing static and dynamic analysis rules to prevent future occurrences. This automation will require the development of custom internal tools and integrating with GitHub product features such as CodeQL, Secret Scanning and Dependabot. You will be responsible for socializing static analysis and driving adoption of CodeQL throughout the whole company. You will also be responsible for developing internal tools to improve our tracking of vulnerabilities through the entire lifecycle, from discovery to remediation.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing root cause analysis of vulnerabilities and developing new static analysis rules
  • Developing custom static analysis tools using Ruby
  • Developing custom CodeQL queries for internal projects
  • Developing tools to track vulnerabilities through triage and remediation by engineering teams
  • Designing new tools and processes to integrate security with GitHub’s software development lifecycle
  • Being an internal advocate for static analysis and other security tools

Qualifications

  • 3 - 5 years of professional experience in developing software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort collaborating with other security teams and engineers in an asynchronous environment
  • Familiarity with security vulnerabilities specific to Ruby on Rails, Go, or JavaScript
  • Practical software development skills using Ruby or Go
  • Solid understanding of testing principles and high quality software

Senior Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience in developing software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort collaborating with other security teams and engineers in an asynchronous environment
  • Familiarity with security vulnerabilities specific to Ruby on Rails, Go, or JavaScript
  • Practical software development skills using Ruby or Go
  • Solid understanding of testing principles and high quality software
  • Experience providing leadership on existing and new projects
  • Experience providing technical mentorship to other team members

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience using static analysis tools such as CodeQL and Brakeman
  • Experience with dynamic web testing tools
  • Experience using Git and GitHub
  • Linux and system security experience
