Consultant

About the organization

The Future Leaders Foundation (FLF) is a registered nonprofit organization in the USA. Its mission is to sponsor the Fortis Society, a growing, tight-knit, new network of 100+ brilliant, highly educated young professionals and graduate students who have overcome hardship to attend the best schools globally. As members of the Fortis Society, they have pledged to support each other, and to work together to enact vast meaningful change on a global scale. As of September 2020, the Fortis Society became self-governed and operated.

FLF also sponsors the Fortis Fellowship, a program offered to outstanding 1st generation undergraduate students worldwide. This program is no longer accepting new students, but FLF is continuing to support its final two Fellowship classes.

Responsibilities:

The consultant’s main goal will be to strengthen the Fortis Society. This is long-term-focused work with potential for a multi-year relationship with the organization. As a coach and coordinator, you will assist the Governing Body of the Fortis Society by supporting:

  • Fortis Member engagement.
  • Event organization.
  • The admission of new Fortis Members via Cooptation.

In addition during the next two years, you will lead the Fortis Fellowship.

The Fellowship has two remaining cohorts of ~20 Fellows each. You will provide occasional advising, career/internship support and engagement activities to those university students. Upon completion of their fellowship, Fellows receive preferential consideration for Cooptation into the Fortis Society. This might take up to 30% of your working time.

Communication:

You will fulfill this mission with active communication with several parties:

  • the Fortis Society Governing Body and other Fortis Society Members that you support.
  • the FLF Chairman of the Board of Directors (frequent regular communication), and occasionally with other Directors.
  • Fortis Fellows.

Terms

  • Start date: ASAP
  • Duration: One year contract with the potential for renewal.
  • Location: Remote assignment with strong preference for being located in the US Eastern time zone, in the UK, or in Western Europe.
  • Part-time with flexible hours: The assignment requires a minimum of half-time on average, with heavier and lighter periods. Because of the need to communicate with people spread over the world, early morning, evening or weekend calls/virtual meetings are part of the work schedule.
  • Compensation: To be discussed. Open to different formulae - possible mix of monthly retainer, with hourly fees for well-defined tasks.

Qualifications

  • You have a minimum bachelor’s degree and 3 years relevant professional experience, with preference for a graduate or postgraduate degree.
  • You have project management experience, with an ease for learning/implementing new tools for communication and engagement (those used internally currently include Slack, Hivebrite, and Wix).
  • Remote work is not new to you—you master communication via Google Suite, Zoom, and WhatsApp.
  • You are autonomous, organized and efficient in multitasking.
  • You pride yourself on your outstanding interpersonal skills, ability to listen, and to manage different personalities and cultures.
  • Your friends would say you are internationally minded, have high energy and a warm, caring personality.
  • Excellent written and oral skills in English; other languages are a bonus.
  • Your schedule is highly flexible and adjustable.
  • You have a keen interest in social justice (a demonstrated involvement/previous clients in this field is a bonus).
  • You had a challenging upbringing, similar to the Fortis Society Members (this is preferred, but not a must).
