Internal Title: Counselor Manager

Job Type: Full Time, Salaried, Exempt

Compensation: $50,000-58,000/annually

Location: Remote; United States

About Us: Connected Camps is a nonprofit organization founded in 2015 whose mission is to build a global online community where kids build, code, play, and learn from one another. We tap the power of youth tech experts to teach and mentor, and have served thousands of kids through our online and community-based programs.

The Role: As our Counselor Manager, you’ll be supervising and supporting our distributed team of Counselors. You’ll take ownership over the day-to-day operations of the Counselor team, support their professional development as young educators, and foster a positive and inclusive working culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor, and develop performance of Counselors as professionals & educators
  • Conduct group meetings with Counselors for ongoing development, recognition, and performance management
  • Plan and execute recurring Counselor meetings in large or small group formats
  • Plan and coordinate social activities for Counselor team to drive engagement and foster a positive and inclusive culture
  • Lead the recruitment process for Counselors as the primary hiring manager
  • Plan, develop, and execute new hire and year-round Counselor performance trainings
  • Develop resources and workshops for Counselor growth and personal development
  • Manage and document learners’ behavioral and safety issues reported by Counselors
  • Oversee coordination of peer-led performance reviews for Counselors

Role Requirements

  • Experience working with college-aged students, preferably with developing professional skills
  • Experience with performance management and project management, preferably in an education environment
  • Experience with developing instructional materials and evaluating performance
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and in a self-directed manner from a home office using online collaboration tools to manage a distributed part-time team
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills: verbal, written, technological, and interpersonal
  • Passion for youth development and online gaming
  • Ability to operate a computer, including familiarity with Google Suite, Slack, and video conferencing tools
  • Consistent access to stable internet
  • Interest in working in a fast-paced, iterative, design-based environment with a focus on young people

Nice-to-Have’s

  • Some experience in gaming and/or tech-based environments
  • Some experience training teachers or other educators
  • Demonstrated expertise in Minecraft
