Social Media Manager
Social Media Manager, The Shalom Center
The Shalom Center is a small, Philadelphia based, nonprofit organization working with Jewish, interfaith, and secular organizations. While our main focus is eco-justice, we are developing a special effort to build support for President Biden issuing an Executive Order to maximize the forgiveness of student debt. We wish to focus the work on outreach to faith communities and among people burdened by student debt. The campaign will be based on outreach and creative use of social media. We are developing a small team consisting of an organizer who knows faith based and debt holding communities, a researcher who will develop an ongoing stream of analyses on the economic and justice importance of forgiving debt and a social media manager who can create an ongoing stream of messages distributed to the full range of platforms to maximize engagement.
There is a Biblical idea of “shmita” which provides us with a strong voice for equality and justice: “Every seventh year you shall practice remission of debts. This shall be the nature of the remission: every creditor shall remit the due that he claims from his fellow; he shall not dun his fellow or kinsman, for the remission proclaimed is of YHVH” (Deuteronomy 15:1-2).
We have identified an organizer and a researcher and are now trying to find a skilled and innovative social media communicator. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact The Shalom Center. Our initial effort will be a 6-month campaign. We will evaluate the campaign to determine if more time is necessary and affordable.
If interested, please utilize the Idealist application tracking utility with a note discussing your qualifications and availability. Please also include a CV or resume. Local (Philadelphia area) is helpful but we can work virtually and continue to make sure we protect health for all of us. Thank you.
