Leadership for Educational Equity (LEE) is a nonprofit leadership development organization inspiring and supporting a network of civic leaders to eradicate the injustice of educational inequity.

Through one-on-one coaching, fellowships, workshops, and resources, LEE works to develop and inspire its members individually and collectively, across all disciplines – as policy makers, advocates, elected leaders and community organizers. LEE membership is free and currently open to alumni of several partner organizations including Teach For America, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI), New Leaders, Latinos for Education, Urban Teachers, and Public Allies. Position Summary:

LEE is excited to announce the exceptional career opportunity of full-time Director of Membership Marketing and Recruitment. This is a brand new role designed to support the recruitment and onboarding of members from our new partnerships, including, but not limited to: New Leaders, Public Allies, Urban Teachers, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, and Latinos for Education. The Director is responsible for the recruitment, cultivation and onboarding of new members through the development and implementation of effective marketing and engagement strategies. Using both proven and new strategies, the individual will plan, direct, coordinate, and implement LEE’s new member recruitment and engagement and will be evaluated on the effectiveness of these strategies. The Director will ensure people, processes, and technology are implemented allowing for the marketing and recruitment of new members to scale for impact.

The Director will report to SD-Partnerships and will work closely with a fellow Director to design and execute the strategy to market registration, onboarding and early engagement opportunities with the goal of increasing overall membership and increasing brand awareness, awareness of programmatic offerings and affinity with LEE.  

The Director will also work closely with the partner organizations and LEE regional and national teams (as of April 2021, 7 partner organizations).

Position Location: Flexible

Travel Requirements: 30% (Regional recruitment and/or marketing events; Team and/or org-wide retreats and planning) Note: All travel is pending due to current restrictions on in-person engagement due to COVID-19.

Responsibilities:

New Member Recruitment & Marketing (80% new partner organizations, 20% Teach for America) - 45% of the role

  • Lead market research to understand the need, interests, motivations and demographics of potential members 
  • Apply market and member insights to design and implement impactful new member recruitment and marketing campaigns 
  • Collaborate with the SD-Partnerships to manage, develop and support new member marketing and recruitment strategies including campaigns and events  
  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team to ensure coherence, collaboration and efficiency with our overall organizational brand strategy
  • Communicate through multiple channels with diverse audiences to deliver a compelling, engaging message tailored to their motivations and interests.
  • Effectively plan and support the execution of events and other initiatives in pursuit of recruitment campaign outcomes.

Membership Registration & Onboarding (80% new partner organizations, 20% Teach for America) - 35% of the role

  • In collaboration with SD-Partnerships and Partner organizations, develop and lead the marketing and recruitment campaigns and events of the member registration strategy designed to increase the total membership count with proportional representation across partners
  • Design and facilitate events and experiences to recruit new members of LEE from our partner organizations 
  • Collaborate with the SD-Partnerships and other LEE teams (e.g. Regional Impact, Marketing & Communications) to manage, design and support member registration marketing and recruitment strategies and events 
  • Collaborate with the SD-Partnerships and other LEE teams (e.g. Regional Impact, Marketing & Communications, National Impact teams focused on early pipeline development) to market and recruit for early member onboarding/programming designed to increase affinity and later engagement with LEE
  • Support partner organizations in creating marketing materials for members to understand, navigate and connect to LEE development and supports

Partnership Marketing & Communications Operations & Infrastructure - 20% of the role

  • Project management for the strategy development, content development and execution of strategies listed above
  • Primary liaison with LEE Marketing & Communications teams; Liaison with Leadership Development & Design (LDD) and/or Regional impact (RI) designers/facilitators as needed for the design and facilitation of recruitment events
  • Primary liaison with Marketing & Communications teams from Partner orgs (as needed and directed by SD-Partnerships)
  • Collaborate with Strategy, Technology and the Marketing/Communications team to build data collection, reporting/ dashboards and analytic routines to measure the effectiveness of pre-membership, membership registration and post-registration marketing strategies
  • In partnership with the SD-Partnerships, ensures learning, insights and progress for marketing and recruitment efforts are shared across LEE teams (and partner orgs as appropriate)
  • Work across teams to plan, execute, and improve strategy, using data-based tools to identify gaps, patterns, and opportunities within campaigns and develop solutions to achieve outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate work experience
  • 6+ years of relevant professional experience
  • 5+ years multi-media marketing and/or recruitment experience
  • Strong event and experience design skills 
  • Exceptional project management experience and attention to detail with multiple priorities
  • Proven skills and ability to- through multi-channel marketing and recruitment campaigns- grow and retain membership, define membership benefits and work with staff to maximize member value from existing benefits
  • Strong analytical skills for gathering and interpreting member needs, interests, motivations and requirements
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, including in-person and virtual facilitation 
  • Demonstrated strength and ability to work effectively across a diverse set of members and stakeholders
  • Strong membership service orientation essential; knowledge of current and emerging trends in the membership field
  • Exceptional people skills, with demonstrated ability to work well across teams and to lead through influence
  • Strong, demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity & inclusion, and developing marketing strategies with a DEI lens

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graphic design skills
  • Marketing experience within a membership organization 
  • Experience with Salesforce
  • Experience with video content production 
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate within a geographically dispersed team
  • Deep passion for educational equity and belief in LEE’s mission and theory of change
